No, moonshine/ Bimber isn't illegal in the UK.

It is easily the most repeated question I get asked at markets across Greater Manchester. People usually lean in and whisper it, like they’re expecting a raid. In reality, modern Polish-style moonshine ( Bimber ) is a perfectly legal, premium craft spirit. We aren't hiding stills in a Stalybridge basement; we are a fully licensed distillery.

Another favourite this week: 'Can I cook my Christmas ham in it?' The answer is yes, but using our Roasted Hazelnut moonshine for a glaze is a much better use of a bottle than boiling it away. Moonshine should be sipped and enjoyed, not feared.

Almost everyone gets this wrong: they assume moonshine is only for people with an iron gut.

Most people walk up to my stall expecting a spirit that tastes like industrial cleaner. I was at an event in Greater Manchester recently when a guy approached, visibly bracing himself like he was about to take medicine. He tried the Pistachio and the look on his face shifted instantly from fear to pure confusion. He actually asked if I'd given him the wrong bottle because it didn't burn. That is the best part of my job-watching that stereotype vanish in one sip. Polish-style spirits are about the silkiness of the finish, not how much they hurt. It is a premium craft spirit, not a dare.

Have you ever tried a drink that completely changed your mind after one sip?

Busy Saturday for us today ❤️

We’re starting the day at Happenin’ in Hyde from 10:30am, so if you’re around Hyde town centre, come over, say hello and have a little taste of what we do.

We’ll have plenty of our flavours with us, so if you’ve seen us online but never actually tried AK Distillery before ,today is a good day for it 😄

And then we’re straight over to The The Astley Arms in Stalybridge for 5pm for another tasting session.

📍 Happenin’ in Hyde — from 10:30am
📍 Astley Arms, Stalybridge — from 5pm

So basically… if you miss us in Hyde, you’ve got another chance later 😂

Come have a taste, have a chat with us and see what all the fuss is about. ❤️

We’ll see you somewhere in Tameside today 🇵🇱

A little Friday evening plan for anyone around Hyde or Gee Cross !!!

We’re going to Griffs on the Green tonight from 5 pm with our Polish craft moonshine. There’ll be a tasting session, a selection of cheeses and meats, and time to actually sit down, chat and try the flavours with us.

If you’ve been curious about AK Distillery, come and meet us. Tell us what you usually like to drink, and we’ll help you find a flavour you might love. No guessing from a bottle on a shelf 😊

We’ve only got a couple of places left for this evening, so message us if you’d like one, and we’ll get you booked in.

📍 Griff’s on the Green, 266 Stockport Road, Gee Cross, Hyde SK14 5RF
🕔 Tonight, Friday 25 September, from 5 pm

We left the Roast Hazelnut Moonshine alone for five minutes and it made itself the main character. 😂

Honestly, we get it. Rich roasted hazelnut flavour in a bottle of moonshine made here at AK Distillery in Stalybridge? It was never going to stay quiet for long.

The squirrel can keep the hazelnuts. We’ll keep the moonshine. 🐿️

Have you tried Roast Hazelnut yet, or is another AK flavour your favourite? Tell us below 👇
