I've gone full circle and it's time I started getting serious.....
Uptown Discothèque
As many of you may know, I started a DJ brand just after Covid and called it Uptown Discothèque, an event concept designed around my love of Disco House music with influences from record labels such as Glitterbox, Big Love Records, Z Records and Sultra to name a few. The brand name is a simple mock up.. People in Preston go "Uptown" and Tokyo Jo's was the Ultimate "Discothèque" put them together and you have........ yep, you guessed it "Uptown Discothèque" 😂
No venues in Preston catered for any of these music tastes and I wanted to try and bring a bit of this energy to the city as almost every event I attended catered for the over 30s-40s and more.
It's been a hard slog, putting my name to it, promoting it and even naming events with it, but if I'm honest, I did cheat the system by renaming the old Tokyo Jo's Reunion page and called it Uptown Discothèque hoping to change people's mindset from listening to the same old, same old.
Preston Needs Disco
Feeling slightly frustrated and having to travel to different towns, cities and countries to play and dance to the music I love, I introduced Preston Needs Disco early last year, a parody account with the intent of me screaming out loud.. "PRESTON NEEDS DISCO" 📢😤
Many of the events that I have played have been really good and a very enjoyable experience. I've had countless comments and messages showing me the love of which I'm trying to create, even more so with the Preston Weekender, which I just let rip and played my heart out with the music I am passionate about and that others appreciate.
Mr Disco House
At the last Tokyo Jo's Reunion, a good friend of mine shouted over "Hey Mr Disco, how's it going".. A bit bemused by this, I said "Eh? Mr disco, really"... which he replied, you're Mr Disco of Preston 👀, I took this as a major compliment and we chatted about my plans with regards Uptown Discothèque. Cue another daft idea in my head... hey, I need a mascot... another parody! maybe of myself, so, alas "Mr Disco House" was created (Instagram only) a fictional character taken from my favourite books as a child by Roger Hargreaves.
I knew this wasn't going to improve the scope for Uptown, but I thought, f it, it's a bit of a laugh taking pictures of areas in Preston where an event could be held and having "Mr Disco House" pose in the middle for prosperity 😀
Carefree Disco House Club
Now for the serious bit... With all of this in my head and with my mojo at near enough full capacity I've decided to start a new venture and stick to my guns with the direction I want to head towards and achieve.
I've witnessed and followed so many successful events in other towns and cities including the likes of The 5 o'clock club and Downtown Disco in Leeds, Daytime Disco, Manchester, MFSB in Edinburgh etc... so why not do it in Preston?
Anyway, this is my sales pitch to bring the music I love to you all, as mentioned in previous posts, DJing and putting on events can be a very stressful and sometimes mentally draining occupation, but it's the music that defines you as a person in my opinion and we could all do with a bit of happiness in this day and age... hope you can support 🙏
