SPIRIT OF THE WEEK

This week, we’re doing things a little differently. We’re bringing you not one, but three expressions of Blanton’s Bourbon, the Original Single Barrel, Straight From the Barrel, and the Special Reserve, a bottle with a more limited international presence.

First introduced in 1984, Blanton’s helped set the standard for single barrel bourbon, with each expression offering its own take on the character of this iconic American wh***ey.

Blanton’s Original Single Barrel is where it all began. Originally reserved for ambassadors, dignitaries and Colonel Blanton’s family and friends, it was the world’s first commercially marketed single barrel bourbon. Bottled at 46.5% ABV.

For something altogether more intense, Blanton’s Straight From the Barrel takes things to another level. Uncut and unfiltered, this cask-strength expression delivers a deeper, more concentrated character. Powerful, complex and unapologetically bold, it’s one for those who like their bourbon straight from the source.

And then there’s Blanton’s Special Reserve, a bottle with a rather interesting distinction. Not available in the United States, this expression is reserved for select international markets, making it a particularly special addition to our collection. Bottled at 40% ABV, it offers a softer, more approachable profile, with gentle vanilla, toffee, dried fruit and a subtle touch of white pepper.

Three expressions, three distinct characters, and a chance to explore Blanton’s beyond the familiar.

The Parlour came alive with a characteristically Lynrace groove with clssic jazz, Brazillian rythms and a few familiar favourites.

Ollie Weston led the evening on saxophone, joined by Joy Ellis on vocals and Pete Oxley on guitar, The set moved from Benny Golson’s Whisper Not and Jobim’s Chega de Saudade, bringing Brazilian rhythms into the room, before taking a few unexpected turns from Peggy Lee’s I Love Being Here With You and the timeless Blue Moon, to Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark and Sondheim’s Not While I’m Around.

There’s more to come.

The next Parlour Jazz is already in the works.

SPIRIT OF THE WEEK

This week we’re pouring a modern take on American rye Bardstown Bourbon Co. Origin Series Straight Rye, a six-year-old Kentucky wh***ey built around an unusually high 95% rye mash bill.

What makes this release particularly interesting is what happens during its final stage of maturation. After ageing in American oak, the wh***ey is finished for up to six months in custom hybrid barrels made with alternating staves of cherry wood and oak, an unconventional approach that gives this rye a character all of its own.

Bottled at 48% ABV (96 proof), it brings together traditional Kentucky rye production with a distinctly experimental approach to barrel finishing.

The Origin Series is part of Bardstown’s commitment to pushing American wh***ey forward, exploring how different grains, maturation techniques and barrel combinations can reshape a classic style.

A thoroughly modern rye with a genuinely unusual maturation story and one that’s best experienced in the glass.

As the leaves turn and the evenings draw in, the Parlour gets cosier. Parlour Jazz returns! Expect a characteristically Lynrace groove, with classic jazz, Brazilian rhythms and a twist on some familiar favourites.

Join us for an intimate live jazz experience hosted in The Parlour, Lynrace Spirit, led by local Jazz Saxophone wizard Ollie Weston. Our doors will open at 7pm, when you’ll enjoy a welcome glass of Prosecco or Lynrace Negroni, before descending to the Parlour. The bar will be open during the entire evening for you to savour our bespoke cocktails. There will be a break to recharge your glasses, engage with the musicians, and take in the atmosphere.

Lynrace Spirit is a unique cocktail bar in Jericho. Our ethos is founded upon forging connections and inspiring creativity, making it a natural home for live jazz. We will be welcoming a variety of jazz musicians over the coming months who will present yet further variety in jazz styles in our distinct and exclusive setting. We look forward to welcoming you.

Joy Ellis | Vocals

London-based pianist, singer and composer, Joy brings together jazz, Brazilian influences, groove and improvisation. A Guildhall graduate, she has performed at venues and festivals including Ronnie Scott’s, the London Jazz Festival and Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

Hugh Turner | Guitar

A guitarist with decades of experience across jazz, blues, session work and composition, Hugh has played extensively across London and the South East. He has also co-founded jazz clubs and performed alongside some of the UK’s leading jazz musicians.

Ollie Weston | Saxophone

An active saxophonist across jazz and beyond, Ollie has performed with artists including Amy W**ehouse, Tim Minchin, Bonobo and Frank Turner, as well as The London Jazz Orchestra and The Nelson Riddle Orchestra. He is also co-leader of jazz quartet Time Is Of The Essence.

SPIRIT OF THE WEEK

This week we’re pouring a rare release from Willett Distillery, the Willett 4 Year Old Straight Rye, a small-batch Kentucky rye that represents a significant chapter in the distillery’s return to producing its own wh***ey.

After more than 30 years, Willett began distilling wh***ey on-site again in the early 2010s, marking a new chapter for one of Kentucky’s historic family-owned distilleries. Their four-year rye has since become a signature expression of that revival.

Aged for four years in new charred American oak, this rye is released in small batches and bottled at cask strength, rather than being diluted to a standard bottling strength.
At 56% ABV (111.2 proof), what reaches the glass is remarkably close to the spirit as it came from the barrel.

It’s this combination of small-batch production, four years of maturation and cask-strength bottling that makes this release particularly interesting for rye wh***ey lovers.

A distinctive piece of modern Willett history, and one worth experiencing for yourself.
