We are excited to support the bid for Morecambe to become UK Town of Culture 2028

UK Town of Culture is a newly launched national initiative, with the first title set to be awarded for 2028. Three towns will be selected, with two runners-up each receiving £250,000, and the winning town receiving £3 million to invest in a year of culture in 2028.

A group of creative and cultural organisations based in Morecambe are working alongside collaborators from sectors including health, environment, education, young people and the third sector to shape the narrative and build a compelling bid.

We're seeking ideas and input from artists, creatives, businesses and residents from across Morecambe.

You can visit the online portal to share ideas via the link in our bio. https://moremusic.org.uk/news/help-morecambe-become-uk-town-of-culture-2028/

Want to chat in person? A drop-in session will be held at Morecambe Library from 2–4 pm on Monday, 23 March 2026, for anyone interested in finding out more and sharing their vision.

So very saddened to hear of the passing of Lee Wood. A giant of the punk scene, and a man with a giant heart. He gave invaluable and incalculable help with the very first Fringe and we hoped to work with him again in the future.
Condolences go out to his loving family.
He was punk, in the best sense, to his very core.
❤️

Devastated to hear about Will Nelson. He was there at the beginning of Morecambe Fringe, playing a solid part in its foundation, directing The Entertainer at the first festival, creating DIY West End, the forerunner to the West End Players. He directed Robert Calvert's The Box and The Stars that played with Laughing Sam's Dice for Hawkeaster 2018, and Around the world in 80 days, the first promenade piece that again was the forerunner for the things we do in Morecambe. After moving to Manchester to lecture at The Arden Theatre School, he was always available for advice for our projects here, up to the after school drama club and the drama gcse.
Personally he overcame many obstacles. He found real true love, and tragically they died together in the tram crash in Portugal.
RIP Will.
