SAVE The Point MK

SAVE The Point MK The Point 10 is an iconic building built in Central Milton Keynes. Apart from its interesting architectural design, it was the first of its kind in the UK.

We are a grassroots campaign here to prevent the demolition of The Point in Milton Keynes and safeguard one of our city's most iconic landmarks and cultural icons. Built in 1985, the building, then known as AMC The Point 10 was the first multiplex cinema in the UK. Besides the 10 cinemas, it also housed a gym, a nightclub, a number of restaurants, bars and other entertainment. Its image lit with 4

red lines was used on much of the marketing collateral of Milton Keynes as it evolved and developed through the 80's and 90's and took centre stage across the horizon as you drove past or through this growing city. The Point is an important piece of MK's DNA and its recent history. Please help us to save it by signing this petition.

You may have spotted Ryan Gillies from our campaign to SAVE The Point MK and Jay Lawrence of Return MK, a local youth charity and former tenants at , speaking with last night about the need to save it.

Also speaking is Peter Marland, leader of Milton Keynes City Council and we have extended the support of our grassroots campaign to their legal challenge. We will also be looking at other ways in which we can all assist, protest and fight for what is still a much loved icon in so stay tuned for more.

Following the Planning Inspectorate overturning the Council's decision upon appeal, one of the only courses of action remaining to is a challenge at the High Court.

So we're very pleased to understand that Milton Keynes City Council is looking to challenge this decision; the Council now rightly recognising this building's cultural significance as an icon and landmark here in MK.

You can read more about what Pete Marland and the Council have to say on the MK Community Hub website.

Labour-led Milton Keynes City Council is considering a legal challenge to the recent Planning Inspectorate decision to allow the demolition of the iconic Milton Keynes landmark The Point and replace it with new housing development. The original application was previously refused unanimously by the co...

It's the end of an era. A lot has been tried, but ultimately the odds (and the system) were stacked against us.

There will be more to say and any last gasp avenues to follow will be pursued, but for now, it's a time to reflect and remember.

It opened in 1985 with a viewing of Rocky IV.

Well, thanks to you all, we finally appear to be making some headway - with the help of Mr Ryan J Gillies in recent years, over 5,000 signatures, 2,500 followers on here and 10 years of graft - at the moment she is not going to be knocked down and replaced with nearly 500 flats… which is absolutely the right decision for MK and the UK at large. English Heritage absolutely now need to review The Point for it to become a Listed asset - the Shopping Centre is already Listed (yes I know, it’s true) - someone wasn’t thinking too straight back then.

I had an idea today though… if any MK Bikers know the Bike Shed Moto Co and their amazing annual show at To***co Dock Venue LTD, The Point would make an absolutely epic Bike Shed-MK. I’m pretty darn certain that it would be a great supplement for their London business as it’s around 60 miles north of central London and not much more than one hour away from Birmingham - what a killer venue to do a double of London but even bigger and better? A great place to go even if you’re not specifically into motorbikes it’s just a lovely day out - go check out the London one if you haven’t already!

The amazing cafe/restaurant, the barbers, a massive bike showroom out the back where the auditoriums were, maybe a bike design centre/configuration zone for various paying bike builders, a gym or club upstairs - absolutely awesome set up - maybe alternate the To***co Dock show with MK every other year? I for one would definitely ride across to Milton Keynes from Bishop’s Stortford (where I now live), we could all have some great fun with the roundabouts en route too!

What do y’all say?

Have a great Saturday night and thanks again for all your support 🙏🏻

Most agree that whilst it is currently as neglected and as scruffy a building can be, it would be an absolute travesty if The Point, a huge part of Milton Keynes’s architectural importance and history was demolished and simply replaced with hundreds of flats. Instead, we’re hoping and pushing for someone or a company to take it over and renovate it to turn it back into a fabulous bustling bar(s), restaurant(s), art gallery, tech centre, whatever but the point is, The Point should stay for future generations to enjoy just as many did in the 1980’s and for the next 20 or so years.

As a newish City, Milton Keynes doesn’t have very much in the way of important or interesting architecture at all, but if there’s any truly iconic elements of it, this has to be the place. At 8:05 in the morning, I will be on BBC Three Counties Radio talking about my own personal crusade to save The Point, which with the subsequent help of Ryan Gillies, has gathered around 2,500 signatures and followers, partly resulting in the building remaining where it is today.

Right now it feels as if we have a fair chance of keeping it in-situ too! Wish me luck 🤣🙏🏻🥂

Cheers all!

If you thought England beating the Netherlands was a turn for the books then how about this!

Specifically quoted in the Planning Application report is the that YOU helped to submit 200 representations towards!

"The Point itself is nominated to the New Town Heritage Register (NTHR) and is recognised as a non-designated heritage asset"

Much more to come, stay posted everyone. It's coming home, and we don't just mean the football!

The long-running saga of The Point has taken an unexpected U-turn that could save the building from demolition.

It's that time again. are three weeks away and we are going to !

Just as we did last year, we're approaching each and every candidate in the upcoming local elections and asking them if they believe should be saved, updating as we go.

200 submissions were made to the and we need to keep the pressure on, let every party, every councillor and every candidate know just how important this cultural landmark is to their voters - the people they represent.

So if you are a candidate or elected official who thinks The Point should be saved, message us or email [email protected] to let us know.

Plans this week? How about popping along to The Point to see the "regeneration plans" that Galliard Homes are putting forward?

They say most importantly that they want our feedback, so perhaps we can all give them exactly that?

So head over to The Point on either:

Thursday 9th Feb, 3pm till 8pm, or
Saturday 11th Feb, 10am till 2pm

And let's show them just how much we cherish and value this landmark - token red triangles painted on buildings aren't The Point. Don't let them believe that it is.
