Good music needs places to happen. For generations, social clubs have been making room for it.

Bands, DJs, singers, instrumentalists - you name it.

Social clubs are as grassroots as grassroots gets… and yet, they are increasingly at risk of disappearing.

We’ve had some lovely times down our local club, Metro’s Sports and Social Club and we hope to have many many more, too. This year felt like the start of something truly special.

We’d love to see more of it happening up & down the country, and learn from others who are also doing similar things in their own communities.

So, on Tuesday 24th November, we’re teaming up with 21st Century Social Clubs Stir to Action and The StretFest to bring some brilliant people together at Metro’s to talk about what could be done to help more clubs and music communities work together.

Join us for an afternoon of stories, talks, ideas & music - joined by Stretford locals Mr Scruff Mr Scruff, from Nite School, Stretford Public Hall and a host of brilliant speakers and attendees from across social clubs and grassroots music all nationwide.

Saturday was lovely. 🌙 ⛲️

HUGEST love to Mixing Mates gals, Weedot & Róisín for joining The Brokers, Skippy & Demetae & playing some outstanding records, to Fountain Records for continuing to trust us with the shop after dark, and to every person who came down for a dance at Stretford’s ephemeral late nite occasional clubbing spot.

These little Fountain nights have become very special to us.

A small room, a nice set of speakers, a load of pals, some weird & wonky records and more pawn-puns than you’d normally expect in your local independent record shop. The perfect recipe 👨‍🍳🥘

This time we’re taking things to Metro’s Sports and Social Club for a very special day-to-nite affair right in the BEATING HEART 🫀 of Stretford… with a cast of DASTARDLY associates… names we’ll need to steady ourselves for a bit before we can utter.

Some we’ll had the pleasure of hosting at All Nite Pawn (RIP)… but have not seen since… we hope the made it out ok… we’ve heard the rumors about what went on in the dead of night in the back room of that pawnbrokers 😬🦷

Almost exactly one year ago… our very good mateys 𝙈𝙄𝙓𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝙈𝘼𝙏𝙀𝙎 played a leading role in a nite (/fever dream?) where an abandoned Boots Chemist became a part of our weird Stretford Arndale pawnbrokers / nightclub universe… with DOVE / BICEP among their fellow guests (🛌💭)

We’ve been riding about Manchester alongside the Mixing Mates for going on 10 years. Whenever we’ve come together, things have always been EXACTLY how we like them: great mates, top quality nonsense, lovely records, & proper-length sets that take you on a journey… & that’s what it’s all about really in our eyes.
