The government needs to act, and it needs to act now. The UK live music industry is a powerhouse of economic, cultural and political output. There are literally hundreds of thousands of jobs at risk. In 2019 the live music industry supported over 210k jobs and contributed £4.5bn to the economy. If for no other reason than economic, the government needs to act. The social and cultural impact of live music, and especially the grass-roots music venues that do so much to support their local communities and economy, is immeasurable. Today the industry has written to the government en-masse to put them on notice that their lack of support for live music through the covid-19 pandemic will have dire consequences.

The UK live music industry is asking for:
- A clear, conditional timeline for reopening venues without social distancing
- A comprehensive business and employment support package and access to finance
- Full VAT exemption on ticket sales
