Our story

The Bierkeller, German (ish) Showbar! “Bringing the sausages, steins and songs of Munich to Maidstone.” A lost weekend in 2008 was the inspiration for the Bierkeller, a few days exploring Southern Germany with old friends, spread into a week bier tasting, wurst gobbling and stien waving. We visited the worlds largest and second largest beer gardens - seating 11,000, 3 breweries, numerous alehouses, and ate from only cafes, bars and takeaway. We mixed with the local Damen und Herren, and oh the Damen made us smile.

The bits we did remember were amazing, even if we didn’t look as good in Lederhosen as we thought we did. “We have to make our own Keller” was the discussion on the ferry back to the UK. So we did ! Dine at traditional wooden tables with bench seating, sample our selection of German sausages, or stick to the steins and enjoy the show. Tryout currywurst, the “fish’n’chips” of the fatherland, dip a gherkin in your mustard and munch of a fresh pretzel. We import most of our food from our German butchers weekly, whilst our beers come from even further afield. “Around the World in 80 Beirs” is our claim, from pilsners and pale ales to stouts and cider, we keep around 10 draught and four score of bottled beers. Our range regularly changes, and you can normally find something different to try, or our Steintails - Cocktail Steins, land a 2 pint beverage that lasts for an age.

Show time starts 9pm every Friday and Saturday, with 6 regular house bands, and occasional guests, our shows vary from week to week. Show time is a mixture of German drinking songs, pre-war anthems and modern party singalong with music hall humour and a game or two to boot. We don’t expect a quiet audience, and dancing on the benches is positively encouraged, as is chatting to your neighbours and swinging to songs. If you didn’t pre-book a table seat, walk up customers can enjoy the show from the bar areas, and everyone can escape outside to the extensive covered bier-garten Doors Open 7pm, shows start at 9pm, with our resident DJ Davit taking over from 11pm through until 2am. Fun is always the name of the game. If you're shy and retiring, looking for a Michelin Star meal with organic sea-grass drizzled over a vegan squid, served by starched waiters, and have an interest in beers that ends at "bottle of Bud please", then maybe look in the Egon Rony Guide, for somewhere more sophisticated. If are just too-cool-for-school and the idea of letting your hair extensions down or giggling with strangers makes you wince, and maybe this isn't the place for you either! The ultimate singalong-party-dining experience for everyone from 18 to 80!
