Hi Everyone, I'm Rikky the main resident DJ for Shake and during the crisis I'm now helping DJs with their Open Format skills over Whatsapp chat. It's a different kind of DJ clinic because it focuses less on the technical side but mainly on the atmosphere and relationship side of parties and events. You can DM me at Rikky Rock Wingate

These are some of the questions DJs might have-

What's the best way to deal with requests and can I ever look forward to them?
Am I using icebreaker moments well enough?
Am I giving couples the right advice when I work with them on their first dance performance. What extra things can I offer?
How do I best take a group that is adamantly sat down to them having their hands in the air?
How should I best deal with song demands that won't work on the floor but have to be played for the main client?
How do I diplomatically deal with guests asking for requests when the client has specifically forbidden them?
Is it ok for me to be constantly changing the bpm and eq of a song as the dancefloor "breathes"?
Is it Ok for me to ignore bpm and key when mixing and spend zero time organising my music folders?
Is it Ok for me to intentionally not mix but drop mix or even leave gaps between songs?
Am I using the right song criteria to float between genres and what is the light and popular to hard and heavy underground motive?
Do I know all the big songs in several genres?
What should I do when the playlist I've been given is over 200 songs?
How do I manage the volume and eq to maximise the sound experience while working with a limiter?
How do I deal with low volume complaints because I'm impeded by a limiter?
If the venue has a house PA should I use it?
If a venue needs a piece of my kit should I leave it there for them for free?
How do I quickly axe a toxic song?..and should I memorise a few more "saviour songs"?
Is it DJs that have songs or venues and crowds that have songs?
What is the right volume for the warmup part of my set?
What are the most important things I should carry in my DJ bag?
What is the best volume for background music during a meal?
How should I diplomatically deal with a client if I've not been paid for 2 months?
What should my process be when I'm changing over from or to another DJ? Is it OK to message them before the gig?
If I'm not available when I'm being offered a gig what should I do to secure me a future in the business and will I become less appealing to certain venues as I get older?
Am I comfortable with the concept that the higher fee DJs are actually Recorded Music Performers and very different to me as an Open Format DJ?
How many genres should I be able to play? 10? 20? 50?
How can I become a Recorded Music Performer and would I miss the "at performance" challenge of being an Open Format DJ?
