This month we pay homage to one of the most important and seminal events in England’s music heritage, The Punk Special, that took place here exactly 50 years ago on 20th and 21st September 1976.

Promoted by the charismatic Ron Watts, with help from influential S*x Pistols manger, Malcolm McLaren, it featured The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Subway Sect and McLaren’s S*x Pistols on the opening night, with The Damned, Buzzcocks, Chris Spedding & The Vi*****rs and Stinky Toys from Paris the following night. They are two of the most pivotal nights in the 100 Club’s history and we couldn’t let it pass without doing something special.

So, this September 20th and 21st, we’ll be putting on two shows that celebrate not just what punk was 50 years ago, but what it represents now. And, importantly, we wanted it to cost exactly as it did back in 1976: £1.50. Alongside secret supports to be announced on September 19th, we’ll have two nights headlined by the brilliant Sprints and Maruja - two excellent torch bearers for punk in 2026.

In my opinion, Punk is THE most important genre and subculture that the UK, or anyone else has ever produced or invented. And its longevity is testament to that. The list of good it’s done is endless when you consider the background of despair, racism, poverty and sexism it grew from. It’s carried the flag for, and given its support, to people that need it continuously and still does today.

And that is why we have chosen the line up we have, marking 50 years of this incredible tribe, subculture, genre. Call it what you like, its distinct values, style, incredible music, fashion and ethos set it apart from mainstream culture. And these bands perfectly reflect what Punk means in 2026 and its continued relevancy as a movement today.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at midday.

Enjoy

39 years ago today.

Metallica’s secret set. They were billed as Damage INC, but everyone knew.

We had thousands of people crowding the venue on Oxford Street trying to get in. The road was practically shut down, the busses were not happy.

Then there was one lone police officer attempting to count everyone, get 300 to queue, and send the rest of them away.

He was unsuccessful.

This is one of the most admired photos in the venue. Anyone who visits us loves it. We do too.
