Personal Statement — Mark Ames, Owner of XXL
Over the past few days I’ve read a huge number of messages, comments and reviews about our New Year’s Eve event. I want to acknowledge them directly.
I understand how disappointed, frustrated and let down many people felt. That is not what XXL stands for, and it is not the experience our community deserves — especially on a night like New Year’s Eve.
XXL has been part of the community for over 25 years, built on connection, inclusivity and shared nights that people genuinely look forward to. When expectations aren’t met, it matters — and I take that seriously.
The issues raised relate primarily to venue operations and on-the-night delivery, which were not in line with what was agreed or expected. We are actively reviewing what happened, engaging with the venue and our partners, and working through the correct process to address this properly.
I won’t make rushed or performative statements, but I do want people to know this isn’t being ignored. We’re taking the time to get the facts right, protect the community, and ensure that future XXL events meet the standards people rightly expect from us.
To everyone who took the time to speak up — even when angry — I hear you. XXL has always been about its people first, and that won’t change.
