Many thanks to all who came to help us celebrate 16 years of the Candlelight Club on 19th September, filling the room with elegant Jazz Age costumes. It was our second event at a new venue and everyone I spoke to loved it. Tucked away off the high street, it combines industrial grit with decadent glamour—exactly what you’d expect from a fly-by-night speakeasy—and its intimate proportions, with balconies along two sides, brings everyone nearer to the stage. Jolie Papillon, our burlesque performer, told me she loved being able to interact more closely with guests. Hosting on this occasion was Weimar vixen Eva Von Schnippish, evoking the decadence of 1920s Berlin, with live music coming from the Red Hot Rhythm Revival. When the band weren’t playing, DJ Baroness JoJo of the Bee’s Knees was spinning vintage platters. Up on the mezzanine Michelle Krausz was selling vintage jewellery and Ms Firechild was offering tarot readings. As it happens I was also marking my own 60th birthday—thanks to friends who came to help celebrate and to the venue team for the enormous (and delicious cake). See you all on 31st October for our Halloween special!
