We’re heading back to Ibiza 🌴

After our first all night long in the Wild Corner earlier this summer, we somehow got the call to do it all over again.

Monday 21st September, Paradisco is back at Hï Ibiza, taking over the most famous toilets in the world from start to finish.

And this time, we’re bringing a special guest along for the ride…

House Music History: Farley “Jackmaster” Funk 🌴

Before laptops, loops and digital DJing, Chicago DJs were finding their own ways to transform records.

Here, explains one of the techniques used during the early days of house music, blending familiar acapellas with the raw rhythm of drum machines to give records a harder edge.

Take the beat out, bring it back in, layer an acapella over the drums. Techniques that became part of the language of DJing, but back then they were helping create something new.

As Farley explains in the clip, sometimes turning on the drum machine and letting the beats play was enough to make the dancefloor scream.

A brilliant insight into the experimentation happening in Chicago as house music began to take shape.

Footage taken from Pump Up The Volume: The History of House Music (2001).

Liverpool Club Culture: Xpansions at Quadrant Park 🌴

In 1990, footage captured the reaction inside when Xpansions’ ‘Move Your Body (Elevation)’ came through the system.

Richie Malone of was sent the video by a friend from Liverpool’s 3 Beat Records. Of all the footage he’d seen of the record being played, this was the one that blew him away. He still watches it today and says it makes the hairs on his neck stand up.

It’s a brilliant piece of footage from an important time for dance culture in Liverpool.

Quadrant Park was one of the pioneering clubs of the early UK acid house movement, and ‘Move Your Body’ was right in the middle of it. An underground club record that crossed over, eventually reaching No. 7 in the UK charts in 1991.

More than 35 years later, this still might be one of the best reactions to a record on a dancefloor ever.

Liverpool Club Culture: John Cotton 🌴

For more than three decades, has been part of the fabric of Liverpool’s club scene.

From the Buzz to his legendary residency, John’s career has taken him across Liverpool and further afield, with regular appearances in places like Holland, Italy, Jerusalem, Hong Kong, France and much more

At the heart of it all was JC’s records.

John would regularly travel to Holland in search of music, bringing home imports that were difficult, and sometimes impossible, to find in the UK. Long before everything was available at the click of a button, finding the right records took time, knowledge and plenty of digging.

The result was a record collection that became legendary in its own right and gave John’s sets an identity of their own.

He was famously protective of his selections too, covering or removing the labels from certain records so other DJs couldn’t see what he was playing. He did it so often that there are records in his collection today that even John no longer knows the names of.

Many of those records made the journey back from Europe to Liverpool and onto the city’s dancefloors, becoming part of the soundtrack for a generation of clubbers.

They also soundtracked some unforgettable nights across the city, including this clip of John behind the decks at The Garage.
