One of the region’s most exciting sporting events is back! The East Cleveland Classic cycle race returns this Sunday 12 April, bringing elite men’s and women’s racing to our area once again.
Both races form part of the British Cycling Open National Road Series and people come along and enjoy the event for free.
The race starts and finishes in Saltburn (near the bandstand) and takes riders through Skelton, Guisborough, Charltons, Boosbeck, Lingdale and Brotton.
Race Schedule:
• Women’s Race – 4 laps, 68 miles, starts 9am
• Men’s Race – 6 laps, 100 miles, starts 1.15pm
To keep riders and spectators safe, a rolling road closure will be in place along the route. This means roads on route will be closed to traffic by Police Es**rt Vehicles for a short period (usually around 15 minutes) to allow the race to pass safely.
Glenside will be closed between the junction of Windsor Terrace and the junction of Albion Terrace to all unauthorised vehicle traffic from 6am on Sunday 12 April.
Cllr Carrie Richardson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate and Culture, said: “This is a wonderful sporting event and a chance to see elite athletes in action. It’s also an opportunity to have fun and showcase the beauty of East Cleveland to cycling fans across the country and the world.”
