Songs Ya Bass

Songs Ya Bass A unique club night for folk that still love music but don’t get to the dancing anymore. It's also a (pre) request night Songs Ya Bass! Simples!

(the pitch)

So, Nell and I got talking on holiday about a Mod-Life crisis of sorts, and discussed this idea. She's totally Two Tone, I'm 100% Redskins. When we got back, it grew arms and legs and we decided that ‘life’s too short’ and all that so why not......................
Many venues, pubs, clubs around the UK are now doing regular early evening slots for “older clientele”. The 40/50 somethin

gs that still love music but don’t go to the dancing anymore, and also may have to consider Babysitters. We all used to love clubbing and dancing and back in the day, that’s how many of us actually met. Just because we’re all now ‘getting on’ (ahem) doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy it occasionally. We emphasis occasionally because it definitely won’t be weekly or even monthly. SYB happens on a totally sporadic basis to keep it special (ie when we can fit it in) 4 or 5 times a year. The first SYB attracted 50 music lovers in Nov 2012 to 'The Flying Duck'. Not many but every soul there danced their little tooshies off. A change of venue to 'The Buff Club' in April 2013 nearly doubled the attendance
Our different take on things is that it’s totally democratic ie. anyone can supply some of the choons. Email '[email protected]' with details of up to 2 song choices anytime and leave the rest up to us. we will en devour to play as many as poss on the night. Yeah, we know it’s mega early, but why not. We have the Venue from 6.30 until 11.00 – last bus/train home, babysitters, etc. However, if you’re wanting to relive the Glory Days, after 11.00, it’s a soul night and everyone from ‘Songs Ya Bass’ is welcome to stay on for that if desired. You don’t have to submit songs. If you just want to come along and cut a rug to decent choons, no problem. If you do want to include 2 songs, all we ask is that you’re sensible about it – mix it up, try not to pick just 2 ska songs, just 2 rockabilly songs, just 2 soul songs, etc. Any genre, but preferably something that people will jump about to, no 12” versions @ 10 minutes length (we want to play as many as poss). It usually transpires that we've got over 100+ songs to cram into 4 hours) I was also going to say try to box a bit clever eg if you’re gonna bring Primal Scream, not ‘Loaded’, if New Order, not Blue Monday, if Clash, not Casbah, in other words, not too obvious. But that would be going against the Democracy vibe that I’m talking about it, so pretend I didn’t say that...........
And lastly, if you are into this and now have a big grin on your face, all we ask is that you are prompt, please arrive for 7.00, to make it worthwhile. More details of the next one to follow very soon. Keep your eye on Songsyabass on Facebook for dates.....

Peace
Rik & Nell

I was chatting to SYB veteran, Mark, about Those Dancing Days (he'd requested them for SYB 40), once described as 'Blondie backed by The Attractions' and had forgotten how utterly brilliant they were ............
