Established in 2016 and focusing on classic and
modern sounds of goth, post-punk and coldwave, this night will visit new wave, dark wave, deathrock, synth and everything in between, while looking at some contemporary bands within these genres paying homage to, re-inventing and pushing the boundaries of these genres. With a range of guest DJs showcasing other clubnights, other cities and other scenes within this culture, this semi-regular night will re-invent and energise Edinburgh nightlife. Expect to hear bands like:
Bauhaus, Boy Harsher, Chameleons, Christian Death, Drab Majesty, Fields of the Nephilim, Joy Division, Kaelan Mikla, Lebanon Hanover, Linea Aspera, Molchat Doma, Paradox Obscur, Ploho, Ritual Howls, Selofan, Sex Gang Children, She Past Away, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Sisters of Mercy, Skeletal Family, Soft Kill, Soror Dolorosa, The Cure, The Damned, The Smiths, The Sound, Then Comes Silence, Twisted Nerve, Whispering Sons, and many more! Other nights cater better to classic gothic rock, industrial/EBM, and 80s classics specifically - this night will look at the fresh and innovative face of classic-influenced goth sounds such as coldwave, doomer and minimal. Shadowplay also hosts the modern reinvention of Fimbulvetr, a neofolk/dark ambient evening on a separate schedule playing bands such as:
Chelsea Wolfe, Current 93, Dead Can Dance, Einsturzende Neubatten , Heilung, King Dude, Of The Wand And The Moon, Rome, Swans, The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud, Wardruna and many more.
