🐶 ONE THING I WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME 20 YEARS AGO...

When I got my first dog, I wish someone had told me this:

Teach your puppy that it's okay to simply EXIST alongside you.

No playing.
No training.
No constant attention.
Not even looking at each other!

Just two individuals, sharing the same space, getting on with their own business.

Sounds simple, doesn't it?

But it's a skill we often forget to teach!

We spend so much time entertaining, exercising and training our puppies that we can accidentally create an expectation that whenever we're around, something exciting is about to happen.

And then we wonder why our adolescent dog follows us everywhere, constantly demands attention or barks because we're sitting on the sofa doing absolutely nothing! 🤣

So start NOW, while they're young!

🐾 Sit down with a cuppa and let your puppy potter about.

🐾 Give them something appropriate to chew while you read a book.

🐾 Allow them to settle near you without constantly engaging with them.

🐾 Quietly reinforce those lovely moments of calm, without making a big fuss.

Your puppy doesn't need you to be their entertainment committee 24/7!

Of course, puppies still need plenty of interaction, reassurance and opportunities for play and learning. And if they're genuinely distressed, we respond to that.

But learning that nothing needs to happen every time we're together is an incredibly valuable life skill.

A networking event designed for freelancers, self-employed people and small business owners is being held in Cwmbran

Organised by SF Accounts Limited, the event will take place on Tuesday 22 September from 2pm to 4pm at the Coed Eva and Hollybush Community Centre (the White Hut).

Organisers say the afternoon will focus on making genuine business connections while offering practical financial advice in a relaxed setting.

Unlike traditional networking events, there will be no formal presentations or sales pitches. Attendees can chat with fellow business owners and take part in an open question-and-answer session with Elizabeth Stanley from SF Accounts Limited.

The session is aimed at helping people navigate some of the challenges of self-employment, including managing irregular income, understanding allowable expenses, getting started with business finances and preparing for Making Tax Digital requirements.

Organisers describe the event as a friendly and informal opportunity for people to ask questions without worrying about jargon or booking a professional consultation.

The afternoon will also include tea, coffee and cake, with a bar open throughout the event.

A spokesperson said: "This isn't your typical networking event. There are no presentations, no pitches and definitely no such thing as a stupid question. Bring your questions, share your experiences or simply come along and listen."

Tickets are priced at £15 + booking fee and can be booked through Eventbrite- link in comments.
