Planning a marquee wedding in Cheshire gives you the freedom to create a completely bespoke venue — but it also means thinking about the practical details that traditional venues already have in place.

A marquee is essentially a blank canvas, so elements like flooring, furniture, lighting and layout play a big role in making the space comfortable and functional for your guests.

Here are some of the key things couples should consider when furnishing a marquee wedding.

Flooring
Most marquee weddings are set up on grass. Matting works well for relaxed summer weddings, while wooden flooring creates a completely level surface and works particularly well for dining areas and dancefloors.

Tables & Seating
Round tables typically seat 8–10 guests and help create a balanced layout inside the marquee. Comfortable seating is also important, as guests will spend a lot of time seated during the meal and speeches.

Lighting
Lighting helps transform the marquee in the evening. Festoon lighting, fairy lights and uplighting are all popular choices, alongside practical lighting for walkways and entrances.

Heating
Even summer evenings in Cheshire can get cool, so marquee heaters are often used to keep guests comfortable later in the evening.

Dancefloors & Entertainment
A dedicated dancefloor and stage area helps define the entertainment space and keeps the evening reception organised.

Bars & Guest Flow
Where the bar and service areas are placed can make a big difference to how guests move through the marquee, helping avoid congestion during busy moments.

Outdoor Areas
Walkways, outdoor lighting and seating areas can make a big difference when weddings are hosted in gardens or countryside venues.

Planning these elements early helps ensure the marquee feels just as comfortable and well-organised as a traditional venue.

One of the first questions couples ask when planning a marquee wedding is:

“What size marquee do we need?”

Your guest numbers are usually the best place to start. As a rough guide, these are some common marquee sizes used for wedding receptions:

• 50 guests → 9m × 9m marquee
• 80 guests → 9m × 15m marquee
• 150 guests → 9m × 21m or 12m × 24m marquee
• 270 guests → 12m × 30m marquee

Of course, every wedding is different. The exact marquee size you’ll need can depend on things like:

✔ Table layout (round or trestle tables)
✔ Dance floor space
✔ Bar areas
✔ Catering space
✔ How much room you want guests to have

So while this is a helpful starting point when planning your wedding, the final layout can always be tailored to suit your plans.

If you're planning a marquee wedding in Cheshire or the surrounding areas, getting the right marquee size can make a big difference to how comfortable and enjoyable the space feels for your guests.

Feel free to get in touch if you'd like advice on choosing the right marquee size for your wedding.

When couples start exploring Cheshire wedding marquee variations, one of the first questions is:

“What style would actually suit us?”

The beauty of a petal pole marquee is that it completely adapts to your vision. The structure stays the same, but the atmosphere can change entirely.

Here are five very different ways couples have styled them:

🌿 Country Chic – Hay bale ceremony seating, soft neutral tones and a relaxed countryside setting.

🤍 Classic White – Structured dining layouts, crisp table styling and simple greenery for a clean, timeless look.

✨ Fairy Light Canopy – Warm lighting woven through the sailcloth canopy, transforming the space after dark.

🎪 Festival Style – Multiple tents, outdoor zones and colourful details for a sociable, all-day celebration.

🍷 Rustic – Long banquet tables, gingham linens and natural wood textures for a farmhouse-inspired reception.

The same marquee. Five completely different results.

If you're considering a marquee wedding in Cheshire and aren’t sure which direction feels right, it’s worth looking at how flexible these structures really are.

We’re always happy to talk through layouts, guest numbers and styling ideas, whether you're at the early planning stage or ready to start designing your day.

If you're planning a marquee wedding in Cheshire, one of the first decisions you'll make is the structure itself.

The two most common options are clearspan marquees and traditional pole marquees — and they suit very different settings.

A clearspan marquee has no internal poles and can be installed on a wider range of surfaces, making it a practical choice for tighter spaces or uneven ground.

A pole marquee requires grass for staking and includes centre poles, but creates that classic peaked roofline that works beautifully in private gardens and countryside venues — and within our range, accommodates larger guest numbers.

There isn’t a “better” option. It depends entirely on your site, guest list and layout.

We offer both across Cheshire and always recommend the structure that genuinely works best for your venue.

If you're considering marquee hire in Cheshire, we're happy to arrange a site visit and talk through the options.

Can’t decide whether to have your Petal Pole marquee lined or unlined?

It’s one of the most common questions couples ask once the structure is chosen, and the answer isn’t just about appearance. Lining affects the overall finish, how lighting works in the evening, how the space feels in different seasons, and where your budget is best invested.

An unlined sailcloth interior keeps the canopy fully visible, creating a light, open feel that works beautifully for summer weddings. Adding lining, such as roof swags or wall drapes - can soften the ceiling line, introduce warmth, and create a more refined finish.

If you’re weighing up your options, we’ve put together a clear guide explaining the differences, with practical advice to help you decide what suits your wedding style.
