Exactly one year to the day that we closed our doors for the final time. We knew in this moment that the outlook was grim but we continued to fight for our little bar for the next 6 months, but it just wasn't to be.

We'd always intended to do a big soppy fairwell post but with Jay back working for the new guys it felt kinda weird to be saying goodbye. But as it's now been a whole year since we closed it seems like an opportune moment to say something.

It's hard to find the words, especially now, to express just how grateful we are to each and every one of you for your unwavering love and support over the 6 years that we were open. We have so many incredible memories and you lot really were such an important part of what made Briggs Briggs. It wasn't always easy, between a global pandemic and a cost of living crisis we were lucky to survive as long as we did, and that is in no small part down to you guys.

It's been an immensely challenging 12 months and although we're still trying to get our lives back on track we are very much still together (despite some hilarious rumours to the contrary) If any of you would like to stay in touch or just see what we're getting up to (or to make sure Hayley is still alive) feel free to pop us a friend request or a follow.

So, thank you for everything and please know how much we love and miss you all.

Hi guys 👋 Original/Deceased Briggs here!

We're reluctantly selling our famous green armchairs, and as so many of you fell in love with them (some of you even fell in love ON them) we thought we'd give you lot first dibs before advertising elsewhere. It would be so lovely for them to be rehomed with one of our regulars 💚

There's also a matching 3 seater sofa, we're happy to sell them either as a 3 piece or separately - pop us a message if you're interested or for more info/photos, we're open to offers. Hopefully one of you will end up with a little bit of Briggs in your home!

Well, the next generation of Briggs & Co. quietly opened their doors this evening. And if you happen to pop in, there may be a bearded surprise waiting behind the bar for you - he's not a permanent fixture but will be around until Christmas, at least.

(To clarify, the bearded surprise isn't Santa Claus - before you all get too excited. But to be fair, Santa can't make an Espresso Martini for s**t!)

You guys! Thank you so much for all the love and kindness on our last post - it honestly means so much to us to know that our little bar is so loved by so many of you ❤️

You're probably all wondering what happens next..
Well, the most important thing is that we get Briggs in some form or another back open again as soon as possible. Which means we need to find the next custodian for our wonderful little corner of Colwyn Bay - and the good news is we've already found them! One of our lovely regulars will be taking over from where we left off (albeit with flushing toilets!) - they love Briggs just as much as you lot so we're confident that we're leaving both the bar and you guys in safe hands. And if that wasn't enough, they're going to be open as a coffee shop in the daytime again as well as evenings. We'll be able to tell you more and introduce you to the new owners very soon, so keep your eyes peeled for updates 👀

And what about us, you say? Well, we might finally get to properly enjoy the bar we created. It's fair to say you'll probably find us drinking on your side of the bar in the not too distant future 🌈

Well, here it is. The post you've been waiting for. You might wanna sit for this...

It breaks our hearts to tell you this, but after 6 months of doing everything we possibly could to get back open again, we have unfortunately now reached a point where it's just no longer viable - and so Briggs, as we know it, is over.

As you probably know we were forced to close suddenly and unexpectedly back in March when the main waste pipe for the building collapsed. Initially our worry was that the repair was going to be a huge undertaking and quite possibly even our responsibility. Thankfully this wasn't the case, our landlord took care of everything and the work was actually completed by the end of April. Even better, our insurance included Business Interuption cover, so things should all have worked out OK. However, as it turned out, our run of s**tty luck wasn't over yet.

The impact that the sudden closure had on us financially meant that there was no way we could reopen until we'd received our insurance payout. But we somehow got lumbered with a loss adjustor who not only took up to 8 weeks to reply to emails but also made a string of errors and incorrect calculations along the way, which we had to repeatedly correct ourselves. Six months down the line and we have only just accepted a settlement amount, still incorrect, and nothing close to what we would now need to reopen - but we couldn't justify things dragging on any longer than they already have done. The whole thing has been utterly farcical - laughable even, if it wasn't that it's ultimately cost us our business.

We're aware there's been a lot of speculation and misinformation going around as to what's been going on - we've moved away, split up, the list goes on. In actual fact we've continued paying the bills this whole time, mostly out of our own pocket, in the hope that we would be able to reopen and it wouldn't come to this.

But we've accepted it for what it is, and honestly the hardest part and the bit we've been dreading, is breaking it to you guys. We know you've all been hoping that we'd be back, and your messages, kind words and support over the last few months has meant so much to us. We thought about posting so many times but there wasn't much we could say about what was going on and we didn't want to give you false hope when the situation was so dire.

So that's us done. We're not going to disappear on you immediately so this isn't goodbye just yet. But we'll probably be quiet for a few days cos this sucks exponentially and we just need to take a minute.

This really would be a lot easier if you guys weren't so ace.

Apologies for the radio silence folks! I wish we had some good news for you but unfortunately we're still closed and it doesn't look like that's going to change any time soon.

Seeing as the rumour mill has been going strong we'll just explain quickly what's been going on. Three weeks ago we started having some issues with our toilets backing up which initially seemed to be due to a blockage in the main waste pipe that serves the building. Following inspection it turns out the blockage (which kept coming back) is actually due to the pipe itself having collapsed. This is the pipe where everything leaves the building, which means that until it's replaced we can't use our toilets, sinks, dishwasher - all the things we absolutely cannot run a bar without! And although this may sound like a simple enough job to sort out, because of where it is and access issues, it's really not that straightforward.

We're aware that certain people think we're full of 💩 and that we've actually just gone under. This is absolutely not the case but is really lovely to hear when we're already dealing with all of this! Anyone who still doesn't believe us by all means get in touch and we'll happily send you photos of the literal 💩 show that we've been dealing with. To the rest of you, thank you for your support and all your lovely comments and messages and to everyone who's checked in with us and offered to help. You're amazing, and we wouldn't have made it this far without you. We know this isn't the news you were hoping for. I wish we could say everything will be fine and we'll see you all soon, and as much as we hope that's the case we honestly just don't know how this is gonna go. It's not good guys.

So, what started last week as "technical difficulties" has escalated into quite the s**t show. We will explain properly once we know exactly what we're dealing with but essentially there are some issues with the building that have come to light and until they're resolved we're unfortunately just not able to open and trade safely. So, I'm afraid to say that tonights Quiz is cancelled and we're sadly unable to open this weekend. We'll be contacting bookings and will let you know what's going on once we have a better idea ourselves. But for now we can only apologise, and we will keep you all posted as and when we're able to.. but right now things are a bit poo.

Hi folks! So, we're experiencing some uuuhh.. let's say technical difficulties for want of a better word!

Unfortunately this means we need to restrict numbers this evening, and as we're almost fully booked from 7pm anyway we've decided to open later and not accept any walk ins. Apologies to any of you who were hoping to pop in tonight - we're still honouring all of our bookings but please just bear with us 🙃
