Meet your DJs for September: BEAR

Inspired by lyrical, emotional sounds - from opera to electric blues - Lynton “Bear” brings a varied musical world shaped by soul classics, rare instrumentals, and a decade spent immersed in garage and hip-hop clubs in the early noughties.

New to DJing in the fusion scene, but long connected to music through behind-the-scenes work with musicians and producers, Bear cares deeply about feeling, texture, and the atmosphere a song can create between dancers.

After falling in love with fusion at the very first Kaleidoscope event in 2022, he’s excited to share an eclectic and heartfelt selection with the Bristol community - tinged with just a tiny bit of mischief.

Meet your DJs for September: COREN

is a cross-genre artist, curator, and DJ, known for their irresistible energy and commitment to the colour orange. They fell in love with fusion dance a couple of years ago, and with fusion DJing swiftly after that. Their love for all flavours of dance shines through in sets that hold space for joy, release, and nervous system regulation. Expect anything and everything, from butt shaking to cry dancing.

Meet your DJs for September: FRANKIE

Frankie fell headlong in love with dancing in 2012 and has done very little else since. Her music taste reflects her kpop-and-lock dance style, ranging from big-energy pop bangers to crunchy glitchtronica and layered trap beats; expect angry girl grinds, drops and stops, euphoric festival vibes, and the occasional unashamed 90s/00s chart throwback.

We're (almost) back, baby! Kaleidoscope Fusion is on summer break right now, but we'll be back in a few weeks with your regularly scheduled monthly fusion party. We can't wait to see you there 🥳

Meet your teacher for September: SIÂN

Siân has never met a dancefloor that didn't make her want to move. After falling in love with partnered dancing through blues, she heard the siren call of fusion mid-pandemic and decided to do something about it - and so Kaleidoscope was born. Siân's dancing blends deep connection with attitude and she is currently trying to teach the rest of her body to dance as hard as her hips.

Our monthly workshop and party is open to everybody, including beginners - come dance with us!

Meet your July DJs: GENNA ✨

While they love all forms of ‘macro’ dancing, Genna will also micro to pretty much anything if you let them. Their sets are inspired by their upbringing in California, weaving together alternative (and occasionally spicy) R&B, Neo soul, electronics and sentimental indie folk, with a particular focus on q***r and BIPOC artists.

Meet your July DJs: CHARLIE ✨

Charlie (they/them) stumbled semi-gracefully into fusion dance at Kaleidoscope XXL 2024, and immediately found their dream dance community in all its q***r groovy sparkly goodness. Expect ultra-catchy tracks from near and far, underscored with bassy groove from their blues and jazz background.

Two week 'til our next fusion dance party!

We'll be bringing you one all-levels workshop, followed by three hours of dance party.

What the f**k is fusion, you say?

Fusion is partner dancing, without the baggage. We're not here to stick to a rigid set of steps, but to actually dance with another person to good music on a night out. Fusion is all about improvisation, connecting with your partner and seeing what happens. We don't care if you've never danced before, as long as you're having a good time.

Fusion gets it's name from fusing different styles of dance - maybe you've danced blues, tango, lindy, west coast swing or hip hop or maybe you just like to get on the dance floor and shake it, you have something to bring!

For us, fusion is more than a dance, it's also a way of living the future we want to build. That means it is q***r, it is feminist, and we don't want anyone left behind.
