The culture and food of India were inseparable when agriculture developed in early Indian villages. Food has been an important part of India’s culture since the days of
the Indus Valley civilisations. Today, for many Indians “sitting down” with their family for a meal is one of the most important activities of the day. Indians firmly believe that the family that eats together stays together, and mealtime is a strong source of family bonding, talking and sharing. Growing up in Nairobi, Kenya, some of my fondest memories are of the countless garden parties my parents threw. The freshest ingredients were used, fragrant aromas filled the air as my father cooked in large pots over a coal stove, surrounded by friends and family talking, laughing and watching him. He relished in creating unique, experimental dishes and feeding his loved ones – I think it brought him one of the greatest joys life has to offer! My husband Sundeep comes from a traditional Punjabi family, where homecooked, nutritious meals were the everyday norm. His childhood trips back to Punjab evoke memories of frequenting the roadside cafes (dhabas) and eating the most delectable dhals, vegetable curries and warm, fluffy rotis. His love of good quality food and entertainment took him to owning a successful banqueting venue in the heart of North West London. His team and vision played a pivotal role in creating some of the best experiences in celebrating life’s milestone occasions. Opening an Indian restaurant is the realisation of a lifelong dream to bring these childhood memories to this little part of Elstree expressed through traditional cooking and warm hospitality. Our love for outdoor dining surrounded by beautiful, fragrant flowers and trees, amongst nature together with the social bonding and emotional wellbeing it creates is the backbone behind our concept of bringing indoors, a palatial piece of history flecked with nature, but in a contemporary, fresh way that invokes the senses. We welcome you to dine in our “Bhageecha”, and allow the ambience, beauty and mouth-watering delicacies of the East to nourish your soul.
