This fabulous building, now unfortunately demolished to ground level after an arson attack in 2015, was once the largest Conservative Club in the country, and the Majestic Ballroom on the top floor was a fabulous room. In later years, the club became a nightclub and was known as Churchills, although this was closed in 2003 following the death of a customer.

There's been a recent resurgence of interest in the Accrington Conservative Club of late, possibly since it went up for sale, still as a Listed building but with planning permission previously obtained for flats.

Thank you to all the new members who began following this page recently.

The Accrington Conservative Club is back up for sale for £175,000 with the planning permission which was obtained several years ago in order to convert it into multiple small flats, incorporating the still Listed facade that remains.

To restore this building to what it was, would cost between £5m-£10m if only someone had the money and vision to restore our civic pride, built in 1890 and the largest Conservative Club in the country.

6 years on, I still can't believe it every time I drive past that this beautiful Listed building and key part of our Victorian heritage (built in 1890) was left to rot, catch fire, and is now still a hole in ground. It was a real asset to the town and could have helped shape its regeneration.

The rules around Listed buildings often just result in their demise rather than anything positive if it's uneconomic or no use can be found to preserve it completely "as is".

Hard to believe it is 5 years since we lost our beautiful Conservative Club. It was the largest one in the country, built in 1890.

Shameful neglect and a refusal to take control of the decaying situation over a decade led to this day in 2016.

The council should have purchased it in 2006 when it was on the market and found a way to get Wetherspoons to buy it as they were interested in restoring and using the building (as they have with other historic building in need of a change of use). However, it was simply too expensive for Wetherspoons to justify. Such a move would have transformed the town, but instead the building is now lost forever.

Latest view of the facade, given the clearance going on to the rear on the site at the moment. The facade is still a listed building as it survived the fire, so presume it cannot be touched, but must be incorporated into a new building.
