Well, as all of you whom have been close to me know I have been working on putting out my third album as a leader for a while now. But, as everything goes- anything worth having is worth waiting for. So, that wait is coming to a close. I am beyond happy to announce that my new album 'SHIFT' will be released on October 14, 2015 on Blue Note Records / Universal Music Japan International. It is beyond a pleasure, and an honor to have Jason Moran , Pat Metheny, Nasheet Waits, and Harish Raghavan be the core heartbeat of my new project. This is a glimpse of how the mechanical engine functions in regards to interactive streaming sites such as etc.. It is important to take note of the fact that all three systems deliver the same exact service, and world wide digital spread. The differences in the returns are astronomical, as you may have observed. 10.5 % when done through major Record label- 50 % when through an indie Label, and finally the Champion 91-100% when Self Released. Same exact platform- revision of the financial funnel by removing the unnecessary. Brilliant. Remembering this is only ONE of the several different types of mechanical royalties that exist when one creates and distributes a single project/product. Not to mention the residuals and equal percentages coming back from the unloading of sub-publishing deals, brand saturation, physical product, merchandise, touring, clinicians, etc. Distribution outlets are the modern day 21st century 'record label'. So- if the same distribution outlets are available to majors, indie, self released projects- what is the purpose of the record company as we know it- aside of the relations, connections, perceived glam, and brand. It's funny how we spend more energy and effort building someone else's brand. While being grateful for the opportunity to sign away most of our current, and future revenue. We give our brand to create the brand we think we are being given. Realize you have already given it to yourself. Without you there is no them. It does not work in reverse. In the 20 century maybe this could be an argument. In the 21 century. No contest. If you see. Do you believe. If you believe. What shall you do? END OF ALERT
