► Presents: The Zenobit3 aka Sumerian Slave

In 1993, Joaquin B. Lapeña started his career dj under the alias Dj Pitch when he was a regular playing at the flagship clubs of Madrid at that time. Over the years, The Zenobit3 has explored many electronic music styles starting with EBM to discover artists like Aphex Twin, Autechre, CJ Bolland, Robert Leiner o James Stinson...to end up playing Disco, Broken beats, House, Idm, Hip-hop, Techno, Electro, D&B, Ambient...

Dark Archives Collective is a key project to understand Joaquin's music exploration. Dj Pitch, Dj Mu**to (aka Arcanoid) Focus and Dr.Smoke (aka Oscar Mulero) joined creativity, the result was Altered State, weekly Drum&Bass sessions. Soon the collective went on tour around Spain to play at the hottest clubs of the moment. During this period he also was part of Sonar Festival 2000, Festimad 2002 and Phonetica 2004 festivals thanks to the project "Pitch and Focus D&B and scratch application".

In 2004 with the influence of Carl A. Finlow, James Stinson, Anthony Rother... The Electro sound and rhythm he carried in his blood from long time ago took hold of him and focused on music production. In 2007, the track 'Madrid My Beat' released on the well-known Drivecom Records (on vinyl format - signed as Zenobite) the reason why Dj Picht became The Zenobit3. The track was positively valued by many artists and has became an anthem of this captivating and powerful music style.

The Zenobit3 was part of I / O project together with Arcanoid, Ideograma and Boris Divider, among others. Since then, he took part in events such as FEMUR, Analogical Force, We Are The Robots, Electro / Techno Cracks...playing alongside artists like Dj Pelecha, Error Etica, Ultradyne, Silicon Scally, Luke Eargoggle, Sync 24, Billy Nasty...

His music productions are characterised by melodic structures, hypnotic arpeggios and killer bass lines. Groovy soundscapes dominated by alien sounds, a music journey to another galaxy through the stars. Assolute cosmic love...

Given that a spotlight trend can shine on a genre at any given time, only a certain few producers can truly say they were there well before, and after, popular appeal takes place. London’s Sync 24 (Phil Bolland) is an devotee whose imprint in the scene since the early-2000s has perpetuated the demand for electro in contemporary techno clubs, working most directly with the likes of Jensen Interceptor, Privacy, Morphology, Silicon Scally and The Exaltics.

His repertoire of sound sees his style converge the energy of a Den Hague basement rave mixed with round 808 kick drums and classic Detroit-influenced textures, with obotic grooves and flitters of cyber, sci-fi themes running solidly through his productions.

His Cultivated Electronics label, too, has been operating for more than 12 years and has released music from artists as diverse as DMX Krew, James T. Cotton and E.R.P (aka Convextion) through too Versalife, Plant43, Boris Divider and Alpha 606. With his latest solo releases for Central Processing Unit and Propaganda Moscow now added to his growing discography, Sync 24, while remaining a guardian of electro and its perimeters, continues to wield influence in defining the shape and legacy of the genre and its modern contemporary language.

Hailing from the UK, Phil Bolland best known for his Sync 24 moniker is an electro artist and DJ, label boss of Cultivated Electronics and promoter of London-based Electro night Scand. Phil’s first exposure onto the electro scene as Sync 24 was in 2003 when he had two releases on Andrea Parker’s label Touchin Bass. In 2007, he started his own label Cultivated Electronics which has gone from strength to strength, releasing his own material along with artists as diverse as E.R.P., DMX Krew, James T. Cotton, Radioactive Man, The Exaltics, Morphology and Silicon Scally. The label is now an established underground purveyor pushing the electro sound for over a decade. Sync 24’s production and sets combine dark and moody with the funk. With releases on Electrix, Solar One, C.P.U and his own Cultivated Electronics his music is being championed by respected DJs such as Dave Clarke, DJ Stingray and Helena Hauff, among others.

Sync 24 will head the line-up of our special / Techno Cracks edition which will take place next 17th of November in Ya'sta Club, Madrid. A very special date, when we'll have the pleasure to witness his blistering Live set. Don't miss it!

► Electro / Techno Cracks presents: Cultivated Electronics

"The label is really a direct reflection of the music I produce and play and the sound of my club night" (Sync 24). Cultivated Electronics is a 13 years old label owned by the American Phil Bolland currently based in London.

In 2018, the Dj and producer was interviewed by Resident Advisor and he explained how things started: "back in the early days, CE was losing money", even though this didn't stop him to carry on with his project. It was few years ago when, finally the label became a key referent of electro landscape, and what is more, CE received international acknowledged for the big music contribution, all quality productions, as well as artist's collaborations and last but not least, Sync 24's vision and commitment to music: “Fast-forward to today, and some of those same records are trading on Discogs for quadruple their original price. -It's crazy- he said".

So, what changed? Best of all, Bolland has been doing the exactly same thing since day one: "straight-up, no-nonsense electro". RA editorial team concluded providing a quick and simple explanation to understand such a sudden change in people's perception: "As the winds of taste changed and more people discovered (or rediscovered) the sound, they stumbled across a well-established label with years of history behind it, proud of a killer catalogue.”

Last Saturday of March -day 28th- Electro / Techno Cracks will be proud to host the showcase of one of the most vanguard and charismatic record label these days: Cultivated Electronics. Ya'sta Club (located in the very center of Madrid) is the place chosen for the special night. To have a Silicon Sacally (live), Sync 24, The Zenobit3 aka Sumerian Slave and Pelacha Dejota playing together for us is a priviledge. So we want to celebrate all achived so far, as well as to vindicate underground electronic music as such a essential factor of our current contemporary art culture context. We are speaking about four heavyweights of electronic landscape here... Being the masters of "The Art of Turntablism" playing vinyl, either DJ or Live, they always probe their imaginative and precise technical skills, also the connection with public is especially cool, so we can’t wait to enjoy such an excited event!
