Newgrange ist ein über 5.000 Jahre altes Ganggrab in Irland und damit sogar älter als die Pyramiden von Ägypten. Besonders beeindruckend ist, dass der Bau genau auf die Wintersonnenwende ausgerichtet ist: An diesem Tag fällt die Morgensonne durch eine kleine Öffnung über dem Eingang bis tief in die Grabkammer. Vermutlich hatte der Ort für die Menschen damals eine wichtige religiöse oder spirituelle Bedeutung. Heute gehört Newgrange zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe und ist eine der bekanntesten prähistorischen Stätten Irlands. 🇮🇪☘️

Newgrange is a more than 5,000-year-old passage tomb in Ireland, making it even older than the Egyptian pyramids. What makes it especially fascinating is its alignment with the winter solstice. On that day, the morning sunlight shines through a small opening above the entrance and reaches deep into the burial chamber. The site probably had an important religious or spiritual meaning for the people who built it. Today, Newgrange is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Ireland’s most famous prehistoric monuments. 🇮🇪☘️

Die Kilmacduagh Abbey ist eine beeindruckende Klosterruine aus dem frühen Mittelalter. Besonders faszinierend ist der schiefe, etwa 34 Meter hohe Rundturm, der schon über 1.000 Jahre alt ist. Früher konnten sich Mönche bei Gefahr darin verstecken. Heute stehen dort nur noch die Ruinen, die einen guten Eindruck davon vermitteln, wie wichtig und mächtig die irischen Klöster früher waren.
