As many of you know, our beloved venue was shut down by the police last week, but Loophole’s spirit continues to thrive thanks to the support of our community. We are immensely grateful to Fitzroy and Lark for providing us with a space to come together and organise this crazy soli party Thanks to the incredible artists who have joined us for this evening.

We celebrate the vibrant, eclectic mix of genres that made Loophole such a unique place. Our lineup reflects the broad spectrum of sounds that we embraced, from noise and psychedelia to cold wave and beyond. Join us for performances by:

We are devastated to announce that on July 4th 2024, Loophole, at our location at Boddinstraße 60, Neukölln, has been permanently banned from hosting concerts by the Ordnungsamt Berlin.

This forced closure took place following a massive raid by Police and Ordnungsamt shortly before the start of an event the night before. After lengthy and intimidating interrogations of our volunteer staff and the performing artists, the venue was ordered closed and we are not allowed to enter the building, effective immediately. We were given no time to react, plan, or plead our case.

These actions come after many years of conflict with some of our neighbors, who have become increasingly intolerant of our presence in the neighborhood, and sought to have us shut down by filing nearly daily reports to the police and vandalizing our space. This continued to happen despite our investments in acoustic treatment for sound isolation and best efforts to manage the presence and noise of guests in front of our building. Police became an increasing presence in our space, but they often reported to us that they could not hear a disturbing level of sound from the living spaces of the neighbors who had reported us.

Following this raid we have been forbidden from hosting concerts or cultural events. All upcoming events (75+ booked until December 2024) are now canceled. We are still in the middle of a 5 year rental lease, of which we must pay nearly 4000€ per month in rent and other running costs, and we have no way of generating the income to pay rent or our continuing expenses, let alone the presumptive fines and legal costs coming our way. This leaves us in an extremely dire financial situation.

But we want to go on.

We have set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to collect money to help us cover our continuing rental costs and our legal expenses. We are launching a petition for signatures to demonstrate to the city of Berlin that we are an essential piece of the Berlin cultural landscape and that we deserve support in finding a new location.

We are also asking the community for their help in finding a new location for Loophole.

We understand that Loophole played a vital role in supporting the underground music scene in Berlin, and without one of its central pillars, it could all collapse. Without a space like Loophole, which provides a stage for artists of all styles and levels of notoriety, there are far too few places for musicians and artists to grow and perform. Without the small stages, no one can get on the big ones. We still have an amazingly dedicated and experienced collective motivated to move into a space where we can more fully realize our visions and provide the performance opportunities the artists of Berlin need. We also have the network, connections, and following that come with running a venue for over 15 years. All we need now is a space, and the continuing support from our community.

We are devastated to announce that as of yesterday, Loophole at Boddinstrasse 60 has been shut down.

Officially, we are being closed down for lacking the sufficient permits to continue to host concerts. We did not consider giving open access to culture and local band an opportunity to perform illegal. Additionally the exponential rent increases and repeated attempts from our neighbors to get us out of our space have put huge pressure on us. These include but are not limited to threatening messages, police raids, and vandalism.

We are devastated to lose our space but we would like to remember these amazing, wild and yet challenging 15+ years. We are so grateful for the community we have managed to create and for all the people who have participated in our collective and made this place what it was. Thank you all for your support though the years, and for keeping this insane dream alive. Special attention should be given to Jan for being the most trusting, supportive, and caring leader.

There is a little hope for the future, we will keep you updated about that. Just know that we are not yet ready to let go of what we have built.

Yoo Doo Right & KY Band are set to join us at Loophole in Berlin for the ultimate co-headline show on 1st April!

Experimental rock trio YooDooRight wed noisy, melodic guitar parts, effect-heavy synthesizer soundscapes, deep bass grooves and patented percussive furies into a literal wall of sound. Mixing elements of krautrock, shoegaze, post-rock and psychedelia, crafting a unique sound that could be described as a “car crash in slow motion”. Playing festivals such as SXSW, Levitation Psych Fest, whilst sharing the stage with the likes of Acid Mothers Temple, DIIV, A Place to Bury Strangers & more!


Ky is the new project of Ky Brooks. Along with weirdo music mainstays Robyn Grieve (Blastronaut) and Farley Miller (Feefawfum, Shining Wizard), they present Power Is The Pharmacy. This emotionally electrifying collection of songs delivers an acute blend of incisive socio-political observation and spiritual sadness.

"This new record trades the acid-manic jamming and frigid instrumentalism of their first EP for a turn towards concentrated, progressive songwriting that glows with the warmth of the American west. It took moving to Germany from San Diego, California to make singer/guitarist Mikey Sykes fully appreciate American music, and therein have the band opened up a new well of inspiration. The 3-chord progressions, driving rhythms, and potent lyricism of Country and Folk laid the foundation for Rock bands ranging from The Velvet Underground to the Grateful Dead, and on “San Düsseldorf”, Zukunft pick up this thread running through the history of rock music, and juxtapose it against the cosmic sprawl of their Krautrock-obsessed beginnings."
