The Moscow Mule was born in the United States in the early 1940s, not Moscow. The classic story connects John G. Martin, who was trying to popularize Smirnoff vodka, with Jack Morgan, owner of Hollywood’s C**k ’n’ Bull pub and producer of ginger beer.

We love the mask and wear it often . Just not for an entire shift. We’re still human, and spending hours behind a busy bar with restricted airflow, extra heat and limited peripheral vision isn’t exactly healthy, comfortable or safe.

The mask is our symbol and an important part of the experience, but it was never meant to be a punishment for the bartender. Sometimes we need to breathe properly, see what we’re pouring and actually communicate with our guests.

So yes, you’ll see the mask. Quite often, actually.
Just not every minute of the night.
