We are very proud to announce that we were recognized by as the most sustainable Bar in the world, winning the KETEL ONE SUSTAINABLE BAR AWARD 2020.
We want to explain why:
How do we promote our sustainability efforts to our customers, suppliers and
community?
Since 2018 in Alquímico we have established direct trade channels with local farmers in places that were affected by violence, inequality and lack of opportunities: Los Montes de María, La Boquilla and El Salado, where we get ingredients that we use in different our cocktails to avoid intermediaries and we ensure that farmers get 100% of the profit.
In addition to this, in 2019 we made the decision to acquire 10 hectares of land in the coffee region of Colombia, one of the most fertile areas of the country, to build the Alquímico farm. There we develop a permaculture project that seeks the development of organic agriculture for the production of an important part of the raw material used within the Alquímico cocktail programs; We call this project Resilio. Resilio seeks to be a multidisciplinary platform that serves as an educational space for the hospitality industry and, also, generate different agricultural programs that involve farmers in the region.
We are developing numerous agricultural initiatives, like:
The bee farm, the reforestation project, the artisan production of panela and the biofactory. In this first stage, the bee farm has around 130,000 bees for the production of organic honey, while protecting and promoting the reproduction of this species.
The reforestation project has so far two stages completed in which 6,000 native trees have been planted, and a third stage to
start next month with the planting of 2,500 coffee trees. About the production of panela, we encourage the planting of sugar cane and we promote the practice of this ancestral techniques which have been so important for the development of our culture and economy.
