“For me, singing in Arabic has always been a political act. When I first started doing it, it really wasn’t fashionable at all. In fact, in the beginning people criticized the way I sang Arabic, they felt I wasn’t doing it “properly,” and that upset quite a few people. But I felt that I had to push through that.

Arabic music is extraordinary, but if I wanted to be sincere, I couldn’t pretend that I came exclusively from that culture. I come from multiple cultures that nourish me. National borders are not something that interests me very much.”

Kalben is an artist who treats her songs as confessions and her concerts as intimate, safe spaces for connection. Blending folk, blues, and indie pop, her music transcends both vulnerability and strength, weaving deep emotions into simple yet powerful lyrics.

Her stage is a place where love, loss, freedom, and the courage of being human are expressed openly. In every performance, Kalben transforms the audience from listeners into active participants.

In 2026, she will celebrate her 10th year as an artist with her new album Land of Lost Poets. Following records, such as Kalben, Sonsuza Kadar, Kalp Hanim, and Eski Dünyanin Yangini, this record stands out as one of her most profound and mature works in both songwriting and vocal expression.

Drawing on memories and emotions gathered during more than a decade of touring, from Berlin to Mardin, and from New York to Diyarbakir, the singer-songwriter shares her artistic and personal journey with her friends who have walked alongside her.

After her fantastic show at the jazzhane Festival in 2024, she is back the 10th Anniversary and her Land of Lost Poets album tour!
