We would like to register our shock and dismay at the latest order, which allows every business already operational under the previous order to remain so with the exception of live theatre. While we appreciate the necessity of increasing restrictions at this time, live theatre is one of the few businesses that is mandated to close until at least December 7, while movie theatres, restaurants, and bars may remain open. We are struggling to understand why our industry appears to have been singled out.

Our production team recently uncovered 100 N95 masks in our workshop. Today, we donated them to St. Paul’s Hospital here in Vancouver.

Statement from the Arts Club Theater Company: “It is with regret that as a result of the current outbreak of COVID-19 the Arts Club Theatre has decided to close down all of it’s properties, including the Backstage Lounge, until June 2020 or thereabouts. The closing will not take effect until this coming Monday March 16th, 2020.”

All events past 5pm on Sunday March 15 have been cancelled.
