The idea for the CHILL Ice House in Toronto originated with Gresham Bayley who spent his free time during university years working with Iceculture, one of the world’s leading ice sculpture companies. Gresham traveled the world creating permanent ice lounges – in Dubai, Greece, India and all over the US. He has also been involved with other large ice projects, such as the Disney fairy-tale castle in Times Square, New York City, the World Ski Championships and a global warming exhibition in Oslo, Norway at the time Al Gore received his Nobel Prize.
‘We designed CHILL to incorporate the most intriguing ideas from some of the ice lounges we have created. And I wanted a venue that would appeal to families as much as the bar crowd. I think I have been able to address both groups, effectively’ says Gresham.
‘When it came to designing the interior of the lounge I turned to my cousin, Heidi Bayley who is president of Iceculture and is responsible for creating many of the ice lounges I helped install’, he added. Heidi is very experienced in ice décor and understands the value of effective LED lighting – and this will be very obvious when visitors enter the lounge.
‘While ice lounges are understandably extremely popular in hot climates, having a venue in Toronto has great benefits’, Gresham explains. ’After all, Canadians do know a thing or two about ice and snow, so this becomes a truly Canadian experience for people around the globe. We want locals and visitors to come and see what we can do’.
