NEW JERSEY WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER APPLYING TO BE EX-BOYFRIEND’S NEW GIRLFRIEND’S ROOMMATE
NEWARK, NJ — Police say a 27-year-old woman took “staying close” to a whole new level after allegedly responding to a roommate ad posted by her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend… and actually getting a viewing.
According to investigators, the ex had moved on quickly. Too quickly, in her opinion.
When the new girlfriend posted online looking for a roommate to split rent, police say the woman created a fake profile under the name “Ashley — Quiet, Clean, Loves Boundaries.”
She allegedly attended the apartment tour, complimented the décor, and even brought homemade cookies.
Witnesses say things got awkward when she allegedly commented, “Oh wow, I used to keep my shoes right there too.”
The new girlfriend reportedly didn’t recognize her at first — until the ex walked in from the bedroom and froze.
Police say the woman smiled and said, “Small world.”
The confrontation escalated when she allegedly refused to leave, insisting she’d already paid the application fee and “deserved equal housing opportunity.”
Officers were called after neighbors heard shouting that included, “You can’t just replace me and the Wi-Fi password!”
She was arrested for trespassing and harassment.
The roommate ad has since been deleted.
One officer summed it up:
“I’ve seen exes lurk on Instagram. I’ve never seen one try to sublet the relationship.”
