Lately there been an increase in toxic relationships in our community.
Here are some points that we all should remember and try to follow.
Staying away from toxic relationships can be challenging, but prioritizing your well-being is essential. Here are some strategies:
1. Recognize the Signs: Understand what makes a relationship toxic—manipulation, control, constant criticism, disrespect, or emotional/physical abuse.
2. Set Boundaries: Clearly communicate your limits and be firm about maintaining them. Toxic people often push boundaries, so stay consistent.
3. Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off or makes you uncomfortable, don’t ignore it. Your feelings are valid.
4. Prioritize Self-Care: Focus on your mental and physical well-being through activities that make you feel good and help you decompress.
5. Seek Support: Talk to trusted friends, family, or a therapist who can provide perspective and guidance.
6. Distance Yourself: If possible, reduce contact or cut ties altogether. Sometimes going “no contact” is the healthiest choice.
7. Reflect on Patterns: Notice if you’re repeatedly drawn to toxic dynamics and consider why that might be. Healing past wounds can help break the cycle.
8. Practice Self-Worth: Remind yourself that you deserve respect and kindness. Building self-esteem makes it easier to walk away from unhealthy connection.
