People come to their own understanding that because you own a business that you’re automatically successful in their head, like you don’t need the money or they have no problem asking for a deal or telling your staff they know you and that he would pay for this bill. The amount of times people i barely know have convinced my staff that I would take care of their bill is crazy. I think where you really have to tip your hat to industry owners is all the pick up time, cook calls in “I got this” server calls in” I got this” bartender calls in” I got this. Hats off because they’re constantly putting on everyone else’s hat when they have to.
I asked how much should I let the staff steal to an experienced industry owner, I know everyone is thinking umm how about none, but they are all out there trying to outsmart you on how to do it. I did two full front of the house fire and hires this last year. But if you want to catch them it means you have to fire them and if you want to fire them have fun replacing them in a field where it’s hard to find people who want to work in that industry who are already smarter then you and know how to steal the money. It might sound like I’m complaining but it was a fun 2 1/2 years experience, i definitely learnt a lot and have more respect for this industry. It’s Forsure not for everyone, not for those in relationships, not for those with young kids and perhaps not for those who don’t enjoy drinking as much as the next person because I think the stress level definitely calls for some drinking. But alas it was a rollercoaster with its ups and downs, but I think ultimately it took too much time away from me and my kids, not day to day but memory wise, vacations. I’m going to close down and focus while my kids are still decently young on creating more memories.
But effective immediately that’s the Coachs corner retiring. Possibility one last hoorah for my birthday this month but who knows. Thanks to everyone who helped along this journey and supported it while they could.
