Former disgraced Mayor of Carleton place and landlord, illegally evicts Barrymore's Music Hall, during Covid 19 stay at home order, insisting the chattels be removed within 5 business days.
My name is George Syriannis. I own and operate Barrymore's Music Hall at 323 Bank st. Ottawa. For more than a decade, my landlord, Louis Antonakos, the former disgraced and censured Mayor of Carleton Place, has been harassing, and bullying me, ignoring addressing safety issues with the building that have been brought to his attention on numerous occasions and now trying to illegally evict me.
COVID 19 rent subsidies had been secured to assist Barrymore’s and the landlord weather the economic pressure of the pandemic coupled with the provincial moratorium on evictions.
On Monday, January 25th 2021, without prior notice, Mr. Antonakos instructed a bailiff to change the locks of Barrymore’s Music Hall and post an illegal lease termination on the door effectively illegally evicting Barrymores.
Protect, Support and Recover from COVID-19 Act (Budget Measures), 2020, S.O. 2020, c. 36 - Bill 229 schedule 5, implements an eviction band.

I am simply a struggling, single-parent of a 7 year old, trying to earn a living, while at the same time, helping to ensure Ottawans continue to enjoy the music and entertainment from Barrymore’s – a city cultural landmark here in Ottawa and a essential puzzle piece to the City of Ottawa Music City initiative.
I am calling on the City of Ottawa to act enforcing its policies and bylaws; inspect this Heritage building, hold Mr. Antonakos to account and issue the necessary orders to repair and maintain the building to avoid the potential risk of personal injury as a result of the condition of the property.
Mr. Antonakos is flouting the law through this illegal eviction and destroying the livelihood I have built over the years. These heavy-handed tactics are what he did while he was Mayor of Carleton Place.
Thank you
George Syriannis

According to Ottawa Police Services, when called to Barrymore’s on Sunday, April 17th, 2011, an officer wrote: 1. “Dealing with Antonakos, I observed his behaviour to be erratic. It appears as though he may have shut off the water after being denied access in Barrymore’s and if that is the case put the building at risk should anything have occurred.” 2. “When questioned about his story, Antonakos changes his story of why he was there several times.
