Hey folks! Trying this post again, because apparently last week's didn't work... 🙃

Tomorrow *should* be the July edition of Release the Bats, but Cafe Dekcuf had another booking that was made before our little night even existed. Also, DJ Chimaira is in Calgary for Terminus Festival, so we are taking a break this month! Fear not though, spooky music lovers, we'll be back August 22nd for the next edition of Release the Bats with a very special guest... stay tuned for more info on that!

In the mean time, you can catch DJ Chimaira at Swizzles Bar and Grill on August 10th for the return of the Bi***es of Eastwick with DJs Alis and The Shade, and she'll also be filling in for DJ Reverie at Pstrnc on August 17th @56.theunderground. Come dance! 🖤🦇

Hey friends,

Cafe Dekcuf is in a tough spot right now, due to a set of shows that was originally booked for this weekend. They've done the right thing and canceled these wastes of space, but they're likely going to face an expensive legal battle for doing so. Please come out tonight (and in the weeks/months to come) to show your support for a wonderful little venue that not only supports us, but that refuses to provide a platform for hate. 🖤

Hey Ottawa,

We have officially cancelled the bookings for the Danger Cats shows this weekend. Cafe Dekcuf will not provide any platform or support for white nationalists, and does not tolerate fascism, racism, or bigotry of any kind. Within hours of posting about the events, the community immediately brought to our attention what this group stands for.

We were absolutely unaware of this when we accepted their booking, and we sincerely apologise for not doing research into the group before signing them up. We will absolutely be making changes to our bookings process in the future to prevent something like this from ever happening again.

Thank you as well for your patience while we reviewed all of our legal options over the last 36 hours. We are one of a handful of small, independent venues left in Ottawa, and we do what we can with a skeleton crew and a shoestring budget. Building Cafe Dekcuf back into a thriving part of Ottawa’s arts community is our mission, but in the two years since we have been reopened, it has not yet been a profitable one.

That said, morals need to win out over money. Thank you to everyone who has reached out. We heard you loud and clear this week, and we want to keep hearing from you! We are now working on some ideas to fundraise for potential legal expenses, so if you have any ideas or offers of support as we get through this, please reach out to us.

Sincerely, your friends at Cafe Dekcuf
