Smögen is a micro-sized malt whisky distillery and focuses on high quality and big character in small batches, with completely manual production and very hands-on monitoring. Although they will gladly use entirely local raw materials, the endeavor to do so will be subordinate to the quality and character aspects. Since 2020 using mainly Swedish heavily peated and floor malted barley for their spirit they are very happy about both character and quality.

Smögen Whisky AB, the owning company, was founded in the summer of 2009, on the Bohuslän west coast of Sweden, to offer malt whisky of big character and with clear coastal influences. The entire warehousing and bottling are all located on the farmstead of Ståleröd, just southeast of Hunnebostrand, to the North of Smögen island.

NEW IN: Torabhaig 7 Years Old [Phil & Simon Thompson] Distilled 05/2018 - Bottled 06/2025 - Matured in 1st Fill Bourbon Barrels - 57.1% abv.

Torabhaig is a traditional farm-style distillery, one of several that have begun to appear across Scotland in recent years. Production started in 2017, and their output is significantly larger than that of many of their peers.

It is the second distillery on Skye, built to produce a traditional island-style malt whisky — moderately heavy and medium-peated, with long fermentation in wooden washbacks and plenty of copper interaction, resulting in a fruity spirit. Every drop of spirit will initially be reserved for bottling as a single malt, though you can expect some of it to be used for blending later on.

Aroma: The nose opens with pronounced smokiness, accompanied by a sea breeze and a hint of tropical fruit. Maritime influences round out the profile.

Palate: On the palate, this whisky delivers sweet peat smoke intertwined with salted toffee and spices. Notes of charred oak, balsamic, and BBQ follow, complemented by leather and sherry spices.

Finish: The finish is long and smoky, with gentle caramel sweetness and a touch of salinity. Leather and sherry spices return for a final flourish.

LAST BOTTLE: This Is Not A Blend -Clynelish- Single Malt Scotch Whisky [La Maison Du Whisky / Compass Box] Matured in 1st Fill Bourbon Casks and finished for 8 weeks in Ex-Bowmore Casks - Bottled 2025 - 1278 btl. - 50.0% abv.

After the Myths & Legends I and II releases, dedicated respectively to Balblair and Glen Elgin, the London-based house Compass Box created a third single malt, this time honoring the Clynelish distillery.

This edition, playfully named “This is not a Blend,” is the result of marrying seven first-fill bourbon barrels distilled in 2015, then finished for eight weeks in ex-Bowmore 2002 casks.

Bathed in a lush, maritime atmosphere subtly marked by peaty and licorice notes, its aromatic and flavor profile unfolds throughout the tasting with pastoral freshness and a remarkably airy elegance.

Tasting Notes by WhiskyNotes: [90 Points]

Nose: starts entirely on earthy walnuts and moist to***co leaves, followed by bitter orange peels and a hint of turmeric. Old metal tools, new rubber and sweet mustard. After a while some very ripe tropical notes appear, like mango and passion fruit. One strawberry even. Overall pretty disconcerting but also strangely interesting, I wonder where this is going on the palate.

Mouth: again there’s a dirtier side to it, with charcoal, orange peels, charcoal but also grilled vegetables and mustard. Not the bright juicy fruits of the less sherried versions. Then walnuts, just a little syrupy sweetness of herbal liqueur, as well as hints of oxidized Amontillado. Still some apricot and lightly tropical sweetness underneath, but they’re far from centre.

Finish: long, pretty thick, with marmalade and walnuts, perhaps raisins and a hint of liquorice.

A bit of a hardcore / intellectual bottling, in my opinion. I like the Amontillado notes of yore and the fruitiness in the background though. A funky one for insiders.

The best of both worlds
Luis Caballero combines the delicacy of Dominican rums from Oliver & Oliver with the unique nuances of cask from Lustau, aged in Jerez de la Frontera, thus creating an authentic tribute to the adventurous spirit and the legacy of rum.

Double aging
A Gran Reserva 15 rum, aged through the solera system in American white oak cask with a high degree of toasting, which gives it that characteristic dark color of the early rums that accompanied expeditions across the Caribbean Sea. It finishes its refinement with a double aging process in Lustau cask that previously held Pedro Ximénez, imparting an elegant and rich finish.

A new 6 Year Old release that has initially been matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks before an extended secondary maturation with ruby port hogsheads. Presented at 55% ABV, this is a whisky packed with notes of vibrant vanilla, summer berries, dark cherry, almond, and a light pink peppercorn spice.

A beautiful marriage of our unpeated double-distilled whisky creation style with a fruit-forward cask influence.

Batch 1 is now sold out at the distillery. This is an annual release and Batch 2 is expected in early Summer 2026.
