Since our 10th anniversary, Stammbar has chosen not only to be a nightlife venue, but also a place for discussion, questioning and community reflection around the realities that shape our environments and our lives.

During Brussels Pride 2026, we continue this approach with a new talk in collaboration with Pavel - Mr Bear Belgium 2026 :

Cruising, a (cis)men’s story?

Women, allies, trans and non-binary people support our communities and are part of them, yet they often find themselves excluded once cruising spaces or darkrooms enter the picture, whether through rules, behaviours or cultural habits.

Why are these spaces still mostly designed around cis male experiences?
What impact does this exclusion have?
And how can we create more inclusive environments while still acknowledging the feelings, limits and concerns expressed by some members of our audience?

Because q***r spaces are also spaces where we can question ourselves, listen, disagree, evolve and grow together.

This discussion does not aim to provide definitive answers or ready-made solutions, but rather to create space for exchange around the realities, tensions and challenges that exist within cruising and darkroom environments.

Respect doesn’t stop at the door

Working in a bar means welcoming people, listening, and keeping everyone safe. But too often, it also means facing insults, judgment or misplaced anger.

We sometimes receive aggressive messages filled with racism, contempt, or even homophobia. And even if they come from someone drunk or frustrated, they still leave a mark.

Our bartenders and coatcheckers are here to make sure everyone enjoys their night, not to absorb people’s frustrations. Behind every refusal at the door or reminder of the rules, there are people working, with empathy, patience, and a lot of courage.

Stammbar is a space of freedom, but freedom doesn’t exist without respect.

Thank you to everyone who helps keep this place alive each night and to those who understand that a safer space starts with how we speak to one another.
