Last Friday, our Gallery space at Jatra Biroti came alive with Maluya—a powerful folk theatre performance inspired by the timeless Mymensingh Geetika.

Reimagining a centuries-old tale of love, dignity, inequality and women’s resilience, Maluya reminds us that while times may change, the struggle for justice and self-respect remains timeless.

A beautiful production by Theatrical Company that bridged our past with the present.

A musical performance by-
PANDORA

The fusion band returns after a long time with a mixture of modern Bangla hits such as Lalon Geeti, Ravindra Sangeet, Nazrul Sangeet, and many more mingling with rock, jazz, blues and various other genres. The eclectic and wide repertoires bring something for everyone from Lalon to Tagor, which has not been performed by any Bengali band before.

This chapter of Modernotaku Live is changing.

Before it does, I wanted to make space for the people coming up behind us,

three young artists making their own worlds through indie music.

And then, one last time:

This lineup has given me some of my favourite memories, but with Farhan leaving the country and Shadab moving into new projects, this particular version of Modernotaku live is changing.

I don’t want this to feel like an end, this is a celebration of what we have created together.

Maluya, based on the timeless Mymensingh Geetika ballad, is a powerful story of love, dignity, social inequality, and women’s resilience. Maluya represents a woman who, despite humiliation, oppression, and abuse of power, refuses to compromise her self-respect, honesty, and inner strength.

Produced by Theatrical Company, this centuries-old folk tale is reimagined through a contemporary language, visual style, and theatrical approach. Though society has changed, discrimination against women, social judgment, and the misuse of power still exist in new forms.

Bridging the past and present, Maluya asks: Have we truly changed, or have the forms of oppression simply changed? More than a folk tale, it is a timeless celebration of women’s dignity, strength, and the enduring pursuit of justice.
