After 19 years, I finally bid fare thee well to my sound hire website. www.jlrsound.com.au - a business I started in 2005 and it did well for me - very well!!
I Worked my butt off, met a million musicians, promoters, road crew, managers and gazillion lovers of music, some of which are friends to this day.
Gareth Sykes
Jules Miklos-Woodley
Kendall Chonk Layt
Linda Marie
Celina Thomson
Tamika Wood
And whoever I have missed.
I sold all my big gear during Covid, scaled down to doing my regular clients and now school and party DJ legend🤣. I still work for my very first sound hire client, World Series Swims!
I’ve booked bands, run sound and managed so many venues, starting in West End, then onto the Jubilee, the Hamilton, Basement 243, Ric’s Bar, The Zoo, The Arena, The Tempo, Lock n Load, The Joynt, The Bearded Lady, Lefty’s, X&Y Bar (no longer around), The Grinning Dog Tavern (sunny coast) The Shark Bar (GC) and so many from here to Adelaide.
I’ve toured amazing bands too, but my fave was always A Beggars Second - still friends with my SIL Kylie Degebrodt and Dega xoxo over there in WA.
I’ve met Some of the greatest bands, songwriters, musicians and have my name mentioned on over 20 albums!
I’ve done sound for everyone from Jake Whittaker to The Boys, Katie Noonan, Donovan Frankenreiter, Dallas Frasca, PUSA, Gump, Blues Arcadia, The Boys, Anna Weatherup, Planet Fiction and the almighty legend herself, Jules Woo❤️, not to mention that sexy man, Kendall Chonk Layt and that slappin’ double bass of yours.
I’ve danced to a million bands, saw the sun rise on the Valley more times than I care to remember. Drank my weight in bubblegum vodka, sang Tiny Dancer with the basement crew at 4am and lived through Occupy Wallstreet, which tuned into Occupy Basement.
Lost my dignity in the Valley between Ric’s and Basement 243! If anyone finds it, let me know.
The best part - introducing Woody and Tamika to each other ❤️❤️❤️. Married with a fambam of their own. Still remember that night at the bar… but I think you were secretly seeing each other before that - let me have the memory my way damn it!
Other noticeable highlights - sending care packages to a certain Canadian caught at immigration detention 😝 and remaining friends with so many of you to this day.
In fact, a few years ago, a lad by the name of Andy Carter rocked up tp the shop, as a rep for American Express. He just happens to be from a band called Brutet Ben - who played their first ever show on one of my gigs at The Basement 243! He was just here today and drops in once a month.
So thank you folks. You’ve made that whole part of my life, one heck of a ride!
