HISTORY OF LOCH BREWERY

Loch Brewery & Distillery began with a dream — a passion for whisky, brewing and traditional craftsmanship.

Inspired by years of exploring single malt whisky, visits to Tasmania’s distilleries and a journey through the UK’s breweries, the founders discovered an important secret: good whisky starts with good beer. From there, the idea grew to create both whisky and traditional ales.

The search for a home led to a beautiful 100-year-old red brick bank in the village of Loch, South Gippsland. The former bank became the distillery and Cellar Door, while the adjoining butcher’s shop was transformed into a 12hL brewery.

A locally made, British-style brewery was designed and built by a skilled stainless-steel fabricator in Leongatha, becoming fully operational within just five months.

For distilling, the team chose traditional Alembic copper pot stills, a design dating back more than 700 years. Hand-beaten in Portugal, these beautiful stills became the heart of Loch Brewery & Distillery.
