Recently our friend and fellow dancer has moved to Heaven on Friday 19 Apr 2024. Madge was over 100 years when she retired from Dancing. Her vibrant presence and humor is greatly missed by all that knew her. RIP

AUSTRALIA DAY DANCE 26.1.2019
Dancers! We hope you will proudly answer the call to be present at the Leederville Town Hall on the night of Australia Day. Please come in whatever Australiana theme of dress you wish, too extreme is never enough, or your normal dress is fine – feel free to laugh at those who do dress up. We Australians have thick skins.
We realise it may be difficult for those who live South of the river on this night, as there is another major event planned, but maybe another route can be used than the Narrows bridge.

The National Anthem will be sung, there will be a Quiz with the usual fabulous prizes – Australian Made of course – plus many other novelties as we celebrate living in this great land!

It will also be the first night we dance on the greatly anticipated newly coated floor.
84 Cambridge St. Leederville. 7.30 p.m.
See you around like a rissole! .......Margaret Hodgson

Nirvana Christmas Dance Saturday December 22, 2018

The Hall was alive with Christmas spirit on this terrific night. Marrilyn chose beautiful Christmas Carols and tunes ranging from the classic to the bouncy, and the crowd loved dancing around the gleaming tree in the centre of the floor.
The stage was a wonderland of everything Christmassy, and balloons and streamers in Christmas colours added to the festive feel. Father Christmas greeted everyone on arrival, and many chose to have their photograph taken with the rotund and jovial old gentleman. After distributing chocolates to the tables he naturally had to depart for many other functions. Many guests chose to dress in Christmas colours, and a bit of glitter, and danced through the well chosen programme in happy anticipation of the big day, three days later. Hugs and good wishes ended a great night.... Margaret Hodgson

ROCK AND ROLL NIGHT September 8, 2018
We were glad to welcome the vibrant Rock and Jive group once again. The sounds of Everly Brothers and the Big Boppa bounced around the hall as did these smooth Rockers. The swirling skirts and fancy footwork were mesmerising.

After the second stunning Rock and Roll performance the group formed a circle and invited members to join them to learn a few steps and basic twirls in a “progressive change partners” dance. This was quite a challenge for some (like this writer) but with practice we’ll get in the groove!
We hope to see them again soon.……………. Margaret Hodgson.

FATHER’S DAY DANCE REVIEW September 1,2018
We were not going to “do” chocolates on this night until several of the male members assured us that they just LOVED to be given choclolate!
Consequently a large bowl of assorted chocolates awaited patrons – none for the ladies of course – as they arrived. Fathers were also given a finely crafted pen as a special gift. Chocolates were also liberally scattered on the tables. We hope Fathers felt valued on this special night as we remembered good Fathers past and present. ............Margaret Hodgson. 😊

ROCK AND ROLL NIGHT SEPTEMBER 8, 2018
This night we will Rock once again with a second visit from the Rock and Jive Club. We loved their lively display to Bill Haley’s beat earlier in the year, and now they return to give a further treat and will also be willing to teach a few of the more basic steps. Please join us on what will be a fantastic night.…….. Margaret Hodgson

MAD HATTER’S NIGHT ON AUGUST 18, 2018
An amazing night!
The Host and Hostess could hardly believe their eyes as grinning patrons arrived underneath every imaginable type of headgear ever dreamed up. It was an evening of fun, preening, rude remarks, and eventually two winners. Standouts were: Catherina in a very cheeky chapeau with a blue and pink concoction on top, Terry with a vast sombrero, Lyn whose hat band had clocks and the words “ahead of the time”, she also wore hanging at waist level a small clock just like the white rabbit, Anthony in a glittering green Homburg, Claire in a feathery green concoction, Graham in a tall pointy multi striped pixie hat… A grand Parade took place and the Winners were Madge Hitchins In a threatening outfit, not just the hat – which was stitched black leather with mysterious symbols we don’t even dare to think about. Robert Canham the other winner was following the “Alice” theme, with a tall hat showing a picture of the white rabbit and the words “I’m late I’m late for a very important date!” At the back of the crown the words stood out “We’re all mad here” which was fitting. Thanks to all for their imagination and wit. We enjoyed dancing under the bouncing orange purple and red balloons to Marrilyn’s great music…….. Margaret Hodgson

NIRVANA MAD HATTERS DANCE
Saturday, August 18, 2018.
“ I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date ! ”
Do make sure you are not late for this Alice in Wonderland inspired evening when too much hat madness is not quite enough!
Let your imagination run riot as you put together the Headgear of your choice from the beautiful, to the fussy to the understated, to the down to earth or downright ghastly. There is a place for all.
Make jaws drop as you enter the Leederville Town Hall on what will be a night of fun to remember.
Everyone welcome, either as a Hatter, or as a spectator to admire or jeer, and dance of course!

UGLY DRESS Night - 21 July 2018
Nirvana, normally Perth’s Saturday Night Epicentre of exclusivity, charm, good cheer and good taste, bombed out in the good taste department last Saturday night.

On display was extreme fashion of yesteryear mostly in mismatched colours, worn back when we thought we were fashionista’s. Examples: A faded Bali shirt probably dating back to the early 1900’s; A dress worn with holes in the back of the skirt with tasteful track pants worn underneath; a bulky white woollen jumper knitted with lavish stand out bobbles (it probably looked better when the wearer was slender) A faded tiered skirt worn with a man’s sports coat and a Bunnings garden hat. Many men appeared in very worn working clothes – ugly dancing dress for sure!

Patrons had to force themselves to watch the Grand Parade, a sight not for the faint hearted. The Judges faced a hard choice, but winners of the sought after prizes on the night were Neryl Stevenson in a black mini dress with large white spots. With this she chose brown boots, and a flowing mane of red/pink hair..….. Neville Young was dramatic in high vis jacket in pale green with fluoro stripes, and black tie with inappropriate logo, red trousers and odd shoes.

Multi coloured balloons added to the cheer of the evening (wet outside) and a great time of dancing on the newly treated floor, fellowship and fun was enjoyed as always to the great accompaniment of Marrilyn’s tuneful music......Margaret Hodgson.

21 July 2018 - Magnificent night of fun & laughter. Some very interesting, thoughtful and creative attire.
