East China Trading Company Cocktail and Exotic Spirits Bar in Melbourne’s Hardware Lane. 8/12/2005 - 30/9/2023. Thanks for the memories!

Nestled in the vibrant Hardware Lane is East China Trading Company home to exotic cocktails and spirits. East China Trading Company takes its heritage from the trading companies on the ports of Old World Shanghai and acts as the ‘front’ for its more libertine sister establishment Golden Monkey below. East China Trading Company is modern and vintage all at once with a charming warehouse feel to it.

A ceiling-high back bar inspired by Asian architecture houses over 200 rare and unique spirits. Stripped-back walls, soft table lamp lighting, ceiling fans and rustic wooden booths lined in jade green cushions give it a quaint, intimate and cosy feel. The ceiling of intertwined ropes complete the shipping company feel and contrasts with the rigid maze structure of Golden Monkey below. The drinks are worldly twists on classic cocktails with great wines, craft beers, and a selection of some of the finest teas from China also on offer. Good times and good fortune are guaranteed to those that step through the door!

Who loves Pinot Noir? We have this lovely wine from Mornington Peninsula that have a beautiful brick red colour. You can smell spices, red and dark cherries and a hint of oak. You can taste sour cherries and cinnamon initially, then chewy tannins with bright acidity and then the oak tannins kick in late.
Drinking window- 1-4 years for best drinking!

Nestled in the vibrant Hardware Lane is East China Trading Company, Melbourne’s newest dumpling, cocktail and exotic spirits bar. East China Trading Company takes its heritage from the trading companies of Old World Shanghai and acts as the ‘front’ for its more libertine sister establishment below, the iconic and newly revamped Golden Monkey.

East China Trading Company is modern and vintage all at once with a charming warehouse feel to it. Grabbing your immediate attention is a ceiling-high back bar inspired by Asian architecture and housing over 200 rare and unique spirits. Stripped-back walls, soft table lamp lighting, ceiling fans and rustic wooden booths lined in jade green cushions complete the look.

The drinks are an Oriental twist on classics done with the highest quality spirits and ingredients. The bar also offers great wines, craft beers, and a selection of some of the finest teas from China served to their precise brewing temperatures and times.

When it comes to food, signature steamed dumplings and traditional Chinese bao are served from open till close. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are also available. So whether for a light dim sum snack or full dumpling feast with complimenting cocktails, East China Trading Company has got your cravings covered.
