Next up is the fabulous Becky — and there’s definitely a theme to her answers… happy. ☺️
🪩 MEET BECKY 🪩
Another NLNL Darwin regular ❤️
We asked our regular dancers why they come to No Lights No Lycra and what dancing in the dark means to them.
💃 How did you first discover NLNL?
“I was moving to Darwin from Tassie and knew I needed to meet people quickly.
I wanted somewhere I could dance for fun, without alcohol, without getting hit on and without worrying about my safety.
Someone suggested NLNL — and happily, it was exactly what I was looking for!”
🪩 What made you want to come back?
“The happy energy.
The welcome was generous, the cost fits my budget, the room is dark but not too dark, and there are happy, no-expectations goodbyes at the end.
Then walking out into the glorious post-sunset warmth of Darwin with a big smile.
Nothing beats that.”
🎶 How does NLNL make you feel?
“Happy. (See, there’s a theme here! ☺️)
At the end of a hard day, NLNL lets me pound out my energy without worrying what anyone thinks of my sometimes very bad dancing.
We are all just doing our own thing together.
I feel full of joy when I walk out.”
❤️ What would you say to someone thinking about giving NLNL a go?
“Come along.
After a year of NLNL, I’m more confident in myself and more comfortable dancing anywhere.
It’s dark, but not too dark. Everyone is doing their own thing and nobody is paying attention to how anyone else dances.
No judgement. No awkwardness.
It’s so easy. Come along.”
We reckon Becky captured something pretty special here:
“We are all just doing our own thing together.” 🖤
Thanks for sharing your story, Becky — and for bringing your happy energy into the dark with us. 🪩
