🪘MEET YOUR DJ // FUTURE ROOTS 🎶

We are so excited to welcome back Zhonu “Nui” Moon Mzali a.k.a FUTURE ROOTS as he tours across Australia

As a MULTI INSTRUMENTALIST / DJ and PRODUCER with many guises Future Roots has at his command a broad palette of instrumentation including a large array of traditional percussion instruments and drum kits from around the world, and more contemporary ways of forging sound through the use of synthesisers, programming and DJing. He has also had extensive experience in the recording studio environment. An has participation in over 45 professional recordings, and has extensive knowledge and application of music composition, studio engineering equipment and skills.

The music played by Future Roots reflects a rich life journey that has allowed him to be able to draw directly on his experiences of having seen and connected with so many cultures and ways of life through travel and music. Future Roots view of the world and the music he makes has been strongly influenced by his upbringing in Australia and India by his Moroccan/Ghanian father and Australian mother, travelling across Asia, Africa the Middle East and Europe in his formative years, time spent in his ancestral homeland of North and West Africa, as well as his connection to traditional and emerging cultures closer to home in the Australasian/Pacific region

Future Roots DJ sets have been gracing dance floors from Bali’s afro disco parties at SAVAYA to Ibiza’s Namaste events at AKASHA. With his uplifting Afro house sets , traversing electronic musical influences from Africa, Latin America, Brazil and beyond.. often combining live percussive elements and sampling into his sets , that elevates him into a dynamic realm all his own.

Next Friday, we're welcoming Future Roots back to Ecstatic Dance Cairns for a sonic journey shaped by cultures, continents and a lifetime immersed in music.

A multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer, Future Roots brings an extraordinary musical palette to the dancefloor — weaving traditional percussion and global rhythms with electronic production, synthesis and deep, driving beats.

Raised between Australia and India, with Moroccan and Ghanaian heritage, and shaped by travels through Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe, his sound carries the pulse of many places. Ancient roots meet future frequencies. Organic textures collide with electronic grooves. The result? Music that moves through the body and takes you somewhere unexpected.

This is more than a playlist. It's a living music journey.

🎧 MEET YOUR DJ // SAORADH 🎧

Fresh to FNQ for the very first time we welcome Saoradh (pronounced say-or-rah - Scottish Gaelic for 'liberation') who is a Melbourne-based DJ and sonic guide rooted in the North East of England and the Scottish Borderlands of his maternal lineage. His name is an ode to the awakening of the feminine polarity: that quality of depth, receptivity and coherence that restores us to ourselves when we're brave enough to feel fully.

His sound is deep, ritualistic and unafraid of the dark; an eclectic but cohesive weave of electronic textures, natural instruments and genre-bending blends that builds with intention and attitude. A Saoradh set doesn't let you stay on the surface. It asks you to descend, let go and to come back carrying a little less density than before.

Beyond the decks, Saoradh is a Breathing Cold certified breathwork facilitator bringing an embodied understanding of breath, nervous system and presence to every floor he holds.

He believes in the transformative power of dance and community, having borne witness to this through his own journey from devastation to self-realisation and purpose.

We cannot wait to share a dancefloor together this Friday night 🙌

🌿 MEET YOUR DJ // STARSEED 🌿

Jesse’s relationship with the decks began in Cairns more than twenty years ago — cutting his teeth on breakbeat, hip-hop and the underground sounds of the early 2000s.

After a long season away from performing, music found him again through a very different doorway.

Ecstatic Dance.

A space without alcohol, performance or expectation — where music could become something more than entertainment. A place to move, release, feel and remember.

Today, Jesse approaches the dance floor as a journey.

His sets move patiently from spacious, grounding soundscapes into organic and progressive rhythms, indie dance, rolling bass and deeper electronic terrain — gradually building intensity before allowing the whole room to descend again toward stillness.

There is no fixed genre and no predetermined destination.

The dance itself reveals where the journey wants to go.

Alongside his DJing, Jesse has been exploring live visuals, projection and light — beginning to weave sound and visual atmosphere together as his performances evolve toward increasingly immersive experiences.
