We proudly serve our veterans, their families & our community with a variety of member and community events, as well as actively advocating for veteran issues. 🇺🇸 The American Legion provides training and accreditation for nearly 3,000 service officers who help veterans and their families file VA benefits claims applications and provide other forms of support, free of charge. The Legion also offer
s free services for veterans appealing claims decisions and seeking guidance with GI Bill benefits and military transitions. Nationwide, The American Legion conducts or participates in more than 1,200 veteran job fairs and career events each year. Employers include multinational corporations, defense contractors, government agencies and other companies. American Legion posts in many communities nationwide maintain strong connections with veterans on college campuses. The Legion provides assistance and guidance as student veterans make the transition to civilian life. The American Legion has a powerful presence on Capitol Hill, regularly testifying before House and Senate Committees on Veterans Affairs to protect and maintain vital health-care services, timely delivery of VA benefits, relief for caregivers and career opportunities for veterans and their families. The Legion, which drafted and obtained passage of the original GI Bill in 1944, works with Congress and VA to ensure education, home-loan and business assistance are relevant and viable for today's generation. In local communities, the Legion fields nearly 5,000 youth baseball teams and sponsors more than 50,000 Scouts. The Legion volunteers millions of hours at VA health-care facilities and gives selflessly in activities, from food drives to homeless veteran stand-downs. The American Legion is one of the nation’s top blood donors, and, in the event of a natural disaster or emergency, its National Emergency Fund provides immediate financial relief while an army of quick-responding volunteers offers other aid. The American Legion is, in fact, an organization of veterans serving veterans, their families and communities.
