Hi Everyone,

This is Matt Standish, Commander of American Legion Post 8. The rumor mill sure moves fast in this town, so here's what's actually happening with Post 8.

A declining population, fewer local veterans, less disposable income in the community, and rising utility costs have reached the point where the Post cannot continue as is. The executive board and membership have agreed to sell the building and relocate, so we can stop putting money into a building and refocus our efforts on veterans.

Members from every generation took part in the vote, including members who have been part of Post 8 for more than 50 years. This was not an easy decision, and it was not made lightly.

The Post 8 family will stay together. The Legion, Auxiliary, and Sons will continue working together to serve veterans in our community.

If you have questions, I urge you to attend a general meeting or call me. If you're not a member and have questions, you can email me at [email protected]. I'll be away for a few days but will respond as soon as I can.
