For our final three weeks of live music at Umbra, we’ve invited some of our favorite artists back for one last time—and we’re also welcoming a few exciting new faces into the room.
Wednesday continues our open jam residency with the Brooklyn Drum Collective. Bring your guitars, horns, and/or sticks—full backline provided. There will be a sign-up sheet at the event. The house band will kick off the night, and shortly after, host will begin calling musicians up to play. Sets run five minutes per song, with an emphasis on musical improvisation and collaboration.
Thursday, Baklava Express returns to Umbra for two sets of Middle Eastern fusion. The NYC-based band performs original music inspired by the traditions of the Arab world and Turkey, alongside influences from jazz, flamenco, and Eastern European folk. They’ll be joined by Sounds of Cyprus, an ensemble of highly skilled musicians deeply committed to preserving and sharing Cyprus’s cultural legacy.
Friday brings a stacked three-band bill featuring the return of Cold Sugar, Fox Frazier, and DIRT. Cold Sugar is a New York City band led by guitarist and singer-songwriter Guy Fiumarelli, alongside drummer and engineer Brian Duke. Local favorites Fox Frazier will take the second set, followed by DIRT, who will headline the night in celebration of their album release Severed, out Friday.
Saturday, the momentum continues with an evening presented by Juno Roome, featuring performances from Anjoli Simone, Koa Hoa, and Choo Choo. Juno will open the night with a short solo set before passing the stage to this lineup of exceptional artists.
Sunday, we welcome our dear friend and Umbra resident performer Arya Gaston back to the stage for one final show with her trio. A Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist, Arya has carved out a distinctive voice as a producer, songwriter, director, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. Psychedelic soul is the vibe; love is the tribe. The evening will also feature a set from Radio Brass Band, from the luminous mind of Matt Hull—a Boston-born, Brooklyn-based trumpet player and composer inspired by soft radio static and the glow of novelty handheld radios.
