General information
Why is this called the “Redemption Project?” God called us from day one to be a part of redeeming this city for His glory. The only hope for redemption is through Gospel transformation. When the Gospel transforms a life, then families are changed, the market place is changed, neighborhoods are changed, and so on. When the old Sunbeam building became a possibility to lease and renovate, the word “redemption” came to mind. This building, originally a bakery, has been used as a night club, a strip club, and an internet casino. We have an opportunity to renovate, or redeem, this building for God’s glory and not just human pleasure. We will give this building a facelift inside and out. The physical facelift will be great, but it will simply be a mirror of the spiritual facelift taking place within it’s walls. And that excites us! Our prayer is that the Gospel will flood out of the walls and into our city from our use of this building. Know, Connect, Live. That is the vision for Summit Crossing Community Church. KNOW the Gospel, CONNECT others in Gospel relationships, and LIVE out the Gospel around the world. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were all written to a particular audience in a way that resonated within their souls. We are praying that God will show us ways to contextualize the Gospel to our culture in a way that will cause an uprising for the glory of God. We live in a unique city in the south. Huntsville is a city full of highly educated individuals that, for the most part, have been transplanted here from other parts of the country. A high volume of transplants brings a diversity of beliefs. We see two different perspectives of the church in our city. One segment of our population has left the church. They have been burned and therefore see no value in the Gospel because of a skewed view of the Bride of Christ. The other segment sees church as a waste of time either because of unbelief in Christ, or because a greater priority has been placed on “the secular” verses “the sacred”. It is essential that we move forward in this city while understanding the perspectives of those to whom we proclaim the gospel. The message of redeeming this building excites us. We believe it will speak volumes about our desire to love this city.
