Trying to figure out how I want to finish the theater side of the Rattan Room. Thinking about some shipping crates to lift the Kon-Tiki Theater poles so they are more prominent flanking the screen. The lally colums on either side that support the overhead i-beams are staggered by 24" so I'm considering mirrored post covers on either side of the theater for balance and a place to hang some vintage ship lanterns for sconces. Maybe some rigging on the posts for another layer. My inspo for the screen wall is of course the Mai-Kai, specifically, this old kitchen entrance wall in the second pic with the buoy and oars. I think the bones of that wall make a nice backdrop for the screen. Third pic is inspo for the lally column covers, I like the rigging details connecting the posts. The render took a zillion edits but I like the vibe and it helps me visualize what the room could look like.

Created a little problem solver for the Rattan Room. I have several uplight cans around the room to wash the walls with color, but they create harsh glare back to your eyes. I modified the design of the top trim rings by adding a half dome to keep the light where it belongs. The result is dramatic, the walls still get a nice wash of color but zero harsh glare to the viewer. Fun project.

These vintage brass/gold insert dimmers are tough to find and they sell quickly when they turn up. Finally got a pair from ebay to go with the antique brass wall plates in my office and for the patio dimmer switch down in the Rattan Room. It's the little things :)

Spent a couple days getting plants in the ground including some new to me Black Coral elephant ears! Still need to top up a couple areas with topsil & compost, freshen up the mulch and add feather rock, shells, coral and other bric-a-brac.

Time to knock the cobwebs off of the Fugu Lagoon! Spent the last week clearing the pool after opening to a lovely emerald green swamp and also shattering the skimmer return valve. Figured the main drain valve was also crap, so built entire new suction-side plumbing. The cottonwood fuzz storms have been full blast the entire time, but I keep 1 gallon paint strainers on the skimmer baskets for easy cleanup. Water is crystal clear but still pretty chilly, should warm up quickly when the daytime highs make it into the 80s.

Marketplace score! Got a great deal on a 60 foot roll of Mexican palm thatch plus two more bonus 7 foot cutoffs she threw in that were not in the listing. Seller is a commercial decorator, seems these were leftovers from a Cincy area job. I've wanted to add a thatch overhang to the bar area, now to figure out the framing ...
